The City of Albany is proud to announce the appointment of Greg Galliano as the new Police Chief for the Albany Police Department by City Manager Nicole Almaguer. Chief Galliano will be formally introduced at the Albany City Council meeting on Monday, February 2, 2026.

 The City of Albany invites the community to the opening of Journeys to Albany: Paths to Belonging, on February 1, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. This exhibition explores where residents come from and how they arrived in Albany featuring large-scale collages depicting the diverse migration stories of seven Albany families, with opportunities to meet the family storytellers in person. Also on view is Portrait of Albany, a large collective collage celebrating the people of Albany.
Paths to Belonging is a City of Albany sponsored community-building project funded by the Art in Public Places Fund.
Exhibition runs February 1 through April 23

The Senior Center will once again host the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program, offering free tax preparation for older adults with low to moderate incomes.
Tax counselors will be on site at the Senior Center on Thursdays from 1:00–6:00 pm, February 5 through April 9.
Appointments may be scheduled up to four weeks in advance by stopping by the Senior Center or calling (510) 524-9283.

The Rotary Club of Albany is inviting the community to join in and participate in a Greenway Clean-up. The goal of the event is to remove litter and help keep microplastics out of the storm drains. Everyone is welcome to stop by the Rotary information table at the corner of Solano and Masonic and lend a hand. Clean up materials, snacks and educational materials will be provided.

It's open enrollment time for Covered California. Families and individuals who need medical coverage, including health and dental, can register online for a health plan that works for them. The deadline for enrollment is January 31, 2026.
Free and confidential in-person assistance is available in a variety of languages.

Trail users, advocates and professionals can share their experiences and insights by completing an online survey that will help inform the future of trail access and connectivity throughout California. This is your chance to help blaze a new path forward and guide critical trail investments included in the voter-approved Proposition 4 (Climate Bond). The online survey is open through February 2026, when virtual public meetings are scheduled for further engagement.
