The Alameda City Council will hold a workshop to discuss Alameda’s infrastructure needs for shoreline flood protection and sea level and groundwater rise. This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest progress, hear what’s coming next, and show support for building a more resilient shoreline. Community voices matter—if you’re interested in sea level rise planning, climate resilience, or Alameda’s shoreline future, we encourage you to tune in or attend.
In early December, the Bay Area will witness the incredible King Tide phenomenon, where tides will rise higher than usual. This natural occurrence offers us a preview of what is to come for our infrastructure and communities if we don’t adapt our shoreline to rising tides. Join the Oakland Alameda Adaptation Committee (OAAC) and the East Bay Regional Parks District at Crab Cove to watch as the 7.8-foot-high king tide flows into the marine protected area. Find out about the City of Alameda’s plans to adapt to Sea Level Rise, and how to participate in community resiliency efforts.

Building on the past two years of work, the City is now embarking on the next phase of sea level rise adaptation planning in Alameda. With an SB1 grant from the Ocean Protection Council, the Alameda has formally initiated the development of a plan which intends to conform to the guidelines in the Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan (RSAP). Plan completion is expected in 2027 with approval from the Alameda City Council and San Francisco Bay Conservation Development Commission (BCDC). The plan will be developed in coordination with the OAAC. Learn more about Alameda's Shoreline Adaptation Plan.
