What if, just for one week, you experienced your daily life without relying on a car? How might it change your perspective on the way our community moves? If you can drive or afford a car, you may not understand what it’s like to rely on walking, rolling, transit, and asking for rides. But for nearly a third of people living in the United States – people with disabilities, young people, seniors, and people who can’t afford cars or gas – this is their every day.
From September 29th through October 5th, the City of Alameda invites you to join us for the Week Without Driving, a national event organized by America Walks.

Week Without Driving was started by disability advocates so that those who have the option to drive can learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges nondrivers face, and work toward creating more accessible communities for all.
This year, the City of Alameda is inviting you to join us! Your voice matters in this conversation. Your participation can bring fresh perspectives and valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within our transportation system. Please email shenry@alamedaca.gov with your experiences so we can help amplify your stories. The City is excited to hear from Alamedans up for this challenge!
Sign up to receive updates from the America Walks team and stay connected to the Week Without Driving community.
Whether you’re participating for the first time or a long-time advocate, share your journey using #WeekWithoutDriving and tag @AmericaWalks and @loveourisland so we can celebrate your voice.
