The Civic Center Garage is within a 10 minute walk of most Park Street businesses, and it has plentiful parking at half the cost of nearby meters and lots! As announced on July 15, the City is making security, lighting, and aesthetic improvements to the garage.
One element will be to close the garage overnight to reduce vandalism. Take the survey by August 5 to tell us what time the garage should close and open!
The City Council budgeted $1 million for improvements to the Civic Center Parking Structure to address community concerns about security, safety, and attractiveness at this parking facility.
Late last year, we upgraded stairwell lights to LED for better visibility and resistance to vandalism, and we recently fixed the elevator again. Upcoming improvements include:
- Repainting the interior and stairwells with anti-graffiti paint to increase luminosity and create a brighter, cleaner environment.
- New parking pay stations and a mobile payment option.
- Updated parking guidance system to tell you how many spaces are available
- Aesthetically pleasing access controls allowing the facility to close overnight for security.
In addition, the top floor has been fenced off to prevent vandalism that continued to take place there despite increased patrols, sometimes causing problems like elevator breakdowns. The City will use the space to store City-owned vehicles, bringing back a long-held practice to store official City vehicles on the top floor.
