Sea Level Rise Adaptation Community Workshops in August

Join the Oakland Alameda Adaptation Committee's upcoming community workshops this August! These events are a great opportunity for you to learn about and contribute to our Oakland and Alameda shoreline resilience efforts as we plan for sea level rise. Your participation is crucial in shaping a resilient future for our beloved shoreline. Together, we can make a difference!

Come join us to learn about current adaptation plans, share your thoughts and feedback, and engage with agency leaders and experts. Each informational workshop will include an overview of all the current adaptation projects with a deep dive into a particular shoreline area.

Rhythmix Rising Seas Dance Kick-off Event August 24

Rhythmix Cultural Works is launching the Rising Seas Project - a yearlong series of performances of live music, immersive dance, site-responsive theater and an art exhibit that will engage audiences by raising climate awareness and un-earthing solutions for sustainability and resiliency.

Sucessful Climate Action, Resilience and Zero Waste Workshop in June!

The City hosted a successful public workshop on June 25 discussing the Climate Action and Resilience Plan, Zero Waste Plan, and Local Hazard Mitigation Plan updates. We were thrilled to welcome over 50 attendees, including many youth participants who provided valuable feedback. If you missed the meeting and want to catch up, the presentation can be found here.

The City of Alameda is holding a virtual youth stakeholder meeting on August 20th from 4 - 5:30 PM to discuss specific strategies in the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan (CARP) update to help us meet our climate action goals. All youth are welcome, no educational background is needed to attend. The general public will have additional opportunities to weigh in on the plan strategies in the coming months. Register here.

Alameda Municipal Power New E-Bike Rebate

Are you looking for a fun, fast, and climate-friendly way to get around town? Why not try an e-bike? AMP is currently offering a standard rebate of $100 for new electric bicycles, and $300 rebate for income-qualified customers. Learn more about AMP rebates here.

Not confident in your biking skills? Bike East Bay offers bicycle classes and workshops for adults, youth, and families of all skill levels. There are class and webinar options in English, Spanish, and Chinese.


Announcing the “Save the Planet in Your Spare Time – A Climate Protection Handbook for the Busy Person” book launch!

Join local author and passionate climate activist Joyce Mercado to launch her book “Save the Planet in Your Spare Time – A Climate Protection Handbook for the Busy Person” at Books Inc., 1344 Park Street, Alameda on Saturday August 3 at 3:30 pm. The event will include a book signing and interview by Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda's Ruth Abbe.

If you want to learn how to do more to protect the climate, this book is for you! It chronicles Joyce’s journey to becoming a climate protection leader in Alameda.

Leaders influencing others in their communities to protect the climate, community by community, is an essential element in fighting climate change and you can be an effective part of the solution to the climate crisis. Anyone can be such a leader, even if you have a busy life. We need thousands of leaders like you in communities across the country and the world to solve the climate crisis. Together we can make a difference!
