Alameda Police Department recruiting new officers in record numbers

Last spring, the Alameda City Council unanimously approved a $75,000 hiring incentive for police officers, the highest-in-the-nation. Since then, the City has successfully turned recruitment trends around without lowering standards. By June, the Alameda Police Department’s entire patrol division will be filled, reversing a 30 percent deficit in officers and improving response times, community outreach, traffic safety, and crime prevention. Transportation updates

Construction taking place:

  • With the East Bay MUD water main project complete, the Sherman/Clement/Atlantic intersection is being updated with buffered bike lanes and a new intersection design, removing the "bump" that caught some drivers by surprise and replacing it with concrete wheel stops and vertical delineators to prevent vehicles from entering bike lanes.
  • Five intersections along Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Atlantic Avenue are receiving signal improvements and a combination of safety improvements along the Cross Alameda Trail.
  • Traffic calming construction on Clement Avenue from Grand Street to Broadway will start this month!

Construction just finished:

  • Traffic safety improvements on Main Street near the Ferry Terminal, including new striping and adding a half-mile of bike lanes.
  • Safety improvements at Willow and San Antonio, including new high visibility crosswalk markings, signage, and daylighting.

Rebates and grants that will keep you warm and protect your home

  • Heat pumps can help keep your home warm while saving money on energy bills, and AMP customers are eligible for a $1,500 rebate
  • Insulation and air sealing play a crucial role in ensuring comfort during the winter, and BayREN rebates can save Alameda homeowners a bundle.
  • Now through February 21, Alameda homeowners are eligible for $3,000 grants to help strengthen homes against earthquake damage, including seismic retrofits that brace crawl space walls and bolt houses to their foundations.
