Advanced Food Technology Companies Clustering in Alameda

A wave of innovative food technology companies are moving to Alameda, many of which are on the cutting edge of developing alternative protein and food products that are more environmentally sustainable than conventional livestock and farming production practices.

Seven companies are in various stages of actively designing and constructing their facilities at the Research Park in Marina Village, totaling approximately 200,000 square feet. The companies include: Andes, Just Eat, New Age Meats, Shiru, Sugarlogix, TerViva, and Zest BI.

These companies bolster Alameda’s growing reputation for transformative, STEM-driven businesses. The East Bay Business Times recently identified Alameda as a “bio-tech hotbed” with approximately 30 life science companies located at the Harbor Bay Business Park and the Research Park.

Calimar Sculpture Installed on November 4th

Work recently concluded on the installation of Calimar, a large bronze sculpture design for the Alameda Point shoreline, near the WETA Central Bay Operations and Maintenance Facility.

The artwork, by artist Rossella Scapini, depicts a squid with tentacles working as arches and columns, allowing people to walk between the inner and outer space they create.
