Updates on Current and Upcoming Financial Assistance

Paycheck Protection Program

This week, the Office of Entrepreneurial Development announced the latest enhancements to SBA’s Payment Protection Program (PPP), including:

  • Beginning February 24, the SBA has established a 14-day, exclusive PPP loan application period for businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 20 employees.
  • Sole proprietors, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals can receive more financial support through a revised funding formula for these categories of applicants.

More information on these changes can be found in the White House Fact Sheet or the SBA Paycheck Protection Program website.

Upcoming State of California Relief for Businesses and Individuals

This week Governor Newsom signed into law a new package of immediate relief actions, including:

  • Immediate Relief for Small Businesses: Provides $2.1 billion – a four-fold increase over the $500 million currently being distributed – for grants up to $25,000 for small businesses impacted by the pandemic, and allocates $50 million of this total for non-profit cultural institutions.
  • Fee Waivers for Most Impacted Licensees: The agreement provides for two years of fee relief for roughly 59,000 restaurants and bars licensed through the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, and fee relief for more than 600,000 barbering and cosmetology individuals and businesses licensed through the Department of Consumer Affairs.

More information on the legislative package can be found here.  We will pass along more detailed information as it becomes available.

New Resource: Alameda Vaccine Webpage

The City of Alameda has launched a new webpage to track vaccine sites, availability and eligibility in Alameda County. This website, updated daily, includes links to vaccination sites that may have appointments available, the latest on vaccine eligibility, and more.

Alameda workers in food and agriculture, emergency services, education and childcare sectors, and older adults age 65 and up are currently eligible to receive their vaccines. Everyone will have the opportunity to be vaccinated for COVID-19, but supply remains limited.
