 Greetings,
October brings a welcome change of season and an opportunity to reflect on the work we are doing together to make our community stronger. As we move into the final months of the year, I remain focused on delivering responsive county services, investing in our communities, and addressing the issues that matter most to residents.
In September, I hosted the 23rd annual Healthy Living Festival for seniors at the Oakland Zoo. With over 3000 attendees, and over 80 booths offering resources, it was a fun-filled and informative event for all. I'm looking forward to hosting again next year as I continue to support our seniors with events that enrich their lives.
Please read on for updates on several important initiatives underway across the county, along with resources, upcoming events, and ways you can stay engaged.
It is an honor to serve the residents of District 4, and I remain committed to delivering results that strengthen our communities and improve the quality of life for all. If you need assistance with any county-related matter, please don't hesitate to contact one of my offices. Our contact information is listed at the bottom of this newsletter, and my staff and I are always here to help.

Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips
Halloween is a fun time for children, families, and neighbors to come together. As trick-or-treaters head out into our neighborhoods, a few simple precautions can help ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening.
👻 Trick-or-Treat with an Adult Young children should always be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or trusted adult. Older children should stay with friends and have a planned route and check-in time.
🔦 Be Visible Choose costumes that are bright and easy to see. Add reflective tape or glow sticks, and carry a flashlight when walking after dark.
🚶 Stay on Safe Routes Use sidewalks and crosswalks whenever possible. Look both ways before crossing the street, stay alert around driveways and parked vehicles, and never assume a driver sees you.
🏠 Visit Well-Lit Homes Only visit homes with their porch lights on. Avoid entering a stranger’s home or getting into a vehicle with someone you don't know.
🍬 Check Treats Before Eating Wait until you get home to enjoy your treats. Adults should inspect candy and other goodies and discard anything that is opened, damaged, or appears unusual.
🐾 Watch Out for Pets Remember that costumes, masks, and the excitement of Halloween can frighten pets. Give animals plenty of space and avoid approaching unfamiliar pets.
🤝 Look Out for Your Neighbors Drivers should slow down and remain especially alert for pedestrians. Trick-or-treaters should be respectful of neighbors, property, and one another.
With a little preparation and extra awareness, we can help make Halloween safe, fun, and memorable for everyone. Have a safe and spooky-fun Halloween!
