Senator Wahab Seeks to Defund Critical Safety Net Resources

Dear Constituents,

Senator Wahab's Senate Bill 1193 seeks to impose harsh barriers on battered women's shelters, drug addiction treatment, food for starving families, and countless other resources our neighborhoods depend on.

Wahab's bill targets Alameda County, and Alameda County alone.

That raises the question: why does someone who claims they want to represent us, actively seek to harm our neighborhoods, trusted community partners, and the residents who rely on them?

While Wahab attempts to cloak her bill as an “act of transparency” and “conservative government,” it is anything but.

Simply put, this is a misleading and harmful attack on the hardworking organizations who have dedicated themselves to serving Alameda County residents.

The last thing our community needs is another misleading pitch from a politician looking to climb the political ladder at our expense.

We cannot afford to elect people to public office when they harm, target, and go after the very community organizations that make our neighborhoods run.

That's why the entire Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously opposes SB 1193.

And we're not alone.

Wahab's bill is also opposed by the California State Association of Counties, the Urban County Caucus, the Rural County Caucus, and dozens of community-based organizations.
