With the school year quickly approaching, I encourage all parents, students, and families to take time to prepare for a successful year ahead and explore the many county resources, opportunities, and events available.
For high school students in District 1, my office is now accepting applications for our D1 Internship Program! I encourage all interested students to learn more below and apply for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn about local government, and get involved in the community.
We have also included information below about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, an important resource available to anyone experiencing a mental health challenge or emotional crisis. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for support. Help is available 24/7.

The District 1 Internship Program is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 school year! The program runs from September through May and offers high school students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in local government while serving their community.
All high school students who reside in District 1 are encouraged to apply through the District 1 website. Applications will remain open throughout August and into early September.
Last weekend, our D1 Interns joined the community at Niles Town Plaza in Fremont in the free-speech area adjacent to the Niles Farmers’ Market! Our interns greeted residents and shared helpful county resources, including information about 2-1-1 and CalFresh, along with some fun giveaways!
It was great to connect with members of the Fremont community and share more about the resources available to residents. We were also happy to see Fremont Mayor Salwan and Councilmember Campbell.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the Fremont Chamber of Commerce's State of the County on August 26! It's a great opportunity to share updates on the work we're doing in Fremont and across District 1.
I'm looking forward to highlighting the partnerships and initiatives that are making a difference in our community and hearing directly from the people who help make Fremont a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
I hope to see many of you there!

This Suicide Prevention Workshop, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente on Saturday, August 8, is a valuable opportunity for family caregivers to learn more about how to support loved ones who may be struggling with their mental health.
Participants can learn practical tools and resources to help navigate these important conversations. The workshop is available both virtually and in person. Register using the link below to attend.
