Dear District 1,
Summer is in full swing, bringing with it a wide variety of exciting events including the Alameda County Fair, which begins this Friday, June 19, and runs through July 12. I hope to see many of you there!
This Friday, we also recognize Juneteenth, a time to honor and reflect on the end of slavery in the United States and to celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and contributions to our shared history.
Our first Haubert Huddle will take place on June 22, a roundtable event where I will meet directly with business leaders for an open conversation to hear their thoughts, ideas, and concerns. There is still time to sign up; click on the flyer below to learn more.
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find updates on community events, County initiatives, and ways to stay engaged with the important work happening across district 1.
As always, if there is anything that my office can do to assist you regarding County-specific matters, please feel free to reach out at bosdist1@acgov.org.

This month, I had the pleasure of attending the AFL-CIO's 12th Annual Awards Ceremony, where I was named Legislator of the Year alongside three other awardees.
It was an honor to be recognized, and I valued the opportunity to speak with the Alameda County Building & Construction Trades Council and members of the AFL-CIO. Our trade and union members are the foundation of our communities, and their contributions deserve our steadfast thanks and support.
This Juneteenth, we commemorate the emancipation of slavery in the United States and recognize the ambition, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Black Americans in our communities.
Our office was proud to highlight local business leader Phil Long Sr. of Longevity Wines in Livermore this week at our Board Meeting in honor of Juneteenth. As an owner and winemaker, Phil has become a strong example of a family-owned Black business in the Tri-Valley.
As President of the Association of African American Vintners (AAAV) since 2020, he has worked to increase diversity in the wine industry, expand awareness, and support mentorship and financial assistance for students pursuing careers in viticulture and winemaking.
This Juneteenth, we honor leaders like Phil who embody hard work, resilience, and community.
Summer in District 1 brings the Livermore Rodeo, a beloved tradition and a source of local pride. This year marked the 108th anniversary of the Rodeo!
My office and interns were glad to join the community in celebrating last weekend by participating in the Livermore Rodeo Parade and experiencing the strong Livermore spirit despite the heat.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Livermore for organizing an excellent parade and helping kick off the summer and Rodeo celebrations!
