Dear District 1,
As we enter April, I’m excited to recognize Earth Day on April 22—a time to celebrate our planet and reflect on how we can better care for it. This season is a great opportunity to get outdoors and take simple, meaningful steps to protect our environment.
Whether it’s reducing waste, conserving water, or joining a local cleanup, every action—no matter how small—makes a difference. Supporting sustainability and climate efforts remains a key priority for our office as we work to protect our environment for future generations.
In this newsletter, you’ll find ideas and resources to help you get involved during Earth Month. We also invite District 1 residents to share photos of your Earth Day activities for a chance to be featured in our next newsletter!
Use this form to submit your photos by 4/22: https://tinyurl.com/EarthDayPhotos26D1
Together, we can continue building a healthier, greener District 1. As always, if there is anything that my office can do to assist you regarding County-specific matters, please feel free to reach out at bosdist1@acgov.org.

Sincerely,

David G. Haubert Alameda County Supervisor District 1

I am pleased to announce that I have awarded $450,000 to Quest Science Center to help bring a permanent, hands-on science center to the Tri-Valley.
Planned in partnership with the City of Livermore, the center will serve more than 100,000 residents and visitors each year. The center will provide interactive science and technology experiences that engage people of all ages and backgrounds, inspiring the next generation of innovators and bringing opportunity to the Tri-Valley for years to come.
I have seen the impact Quest has had in the region over the past five years and am enthused by the opportunity before us to expand that impact to a permanent location that will enable our future workforce, economic development, and quality of life.

We’re thrilled to share that our own County Librarian Deb Sica of Alameda County Library has won the prestigious I Love My Librarian Award! Out of more than 1,300 nominations nationwide, Deb is one of only 10 librarians to receive this prestigious award for her outstanding public service this year.
Throughout her career, Deb has championed racial equity, LGBTQIA+ rights, and intellectual freedom. She launched the Library’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion team, now the Equitable Libraries Division, and created mentorship programs supporting underserved communities and staff. Deb has also positioned the Library as the sponsoring department for the Alameda County Reparations Commission and partnered with PAVE Prevention to deliver trauma-informed de-escalation training systemwide.
