Diversity is our strength in District 2!
Alameda County is a Welcoming County, first declared in 2016 by the Board of Supervisors, honoring the fact that one in three residents is an immigrant and nearly half of our population speaks any number of our County’s 120+ languages other than English at home.

Photo caption: As Vice Chair of the Alameda County Together For All (ACT) Ad-Hoc Committee, I am committed to the creation of an Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs to ensure we have the right safety-net infrastructure to better serve our diverse region. Click here to watch the ACT Committee’s most recent discussion where I reiterated this priority since raising the urgent need to address this gap during the Board of Supervisors recent budget deliberations given the current federal administration’s attacks.
Your Voice Is Valuable: Apply to Join an Alameda County Board or Commission
Long before becoming a county supervisor, I found my passion for public service by becoming a City of Hayward Human Services Commissioner and later a Planning Commissioner. During this time, I had an opportunity to learn more about my local government and how it is a critical space for advancing real solutions to serve our Community.
From advancing grant funding for essential non-profit service providers to becoming the first Commissioner on the record to talk about aging in place and universal design in the City’s general plan, my participation in public advisory bodies has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my life.

Photo caption: Are you also passionate or curious about making an impact within your local community? Here I am with my late grandfather, Ignacio Ramirez, when I served on the Human Services Commission in 2006. Serving on a board or commission is a great way to share your voice, skills, and perspective to regional decision-making efforts, and your voice may be needed now more than ever.
If you are curious or have questions about the application process, please do not hesitate to reach out to my District Director, Rodney Loche, at rodney.loche2@acgov.org and/or (510) 813-1856. Take this opportunity to help shape the future of Alameda County by consider applying today!
Inspiration from the Youth Generation of Civic Leaders
Photo caption: “Poetry gives voice to the silenced, turns pain into protest, and transforms personal stories into collective movements. It challenges me not only to reflect, but to act. Through poetry, I’ve learned that even the most intimate emotions can spark wider understanding and that a single line can stir hearts, shift minds, or start conversations that matter,” Anika Mangla, 2025 Alameda County Youth Poet Laureate.
On August 7, 2025, Alameda County Library announced the winners of the 2025 Alameda County Youth Poet Laureate competition: Anika Mangla, a rising high school senior from Fremont, was named the 2025 Youth Poet Laureate.
Now in its fifth year, the annual competition celebrates teen voices, civic engagement, and literary excellence across Alameda County. This year’s winners were selected by a panel of judges based on the content, craft, and voice of their work.
Congratulations to our new Poet Laureate as well as all of the other participants, including District 2’s own 2025 finalists Willow Perry from Hayward and Mia Rosales from Newark! We thank all the youth for taking the time to share your voices and talents with our Community and cannot wait for Anika Mangla’s forthcoming poetry book, “Embers and Flame”.
Photo caption: Since the Alameda County Youth Poet Laureate program’s start in 2021, previous laureates have advanced to state, regional, and national levels. This includes southern Alameda County’s own, Jovina Zion Pradeep, the 2024 Youth Poet Laureate from Fremont, who I had the opportunity to meet at the Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame reception earlier this year shortly before she placed as a finalist in the 2025 National Youth Poet Laureate in May!
Before we head into the long holiday weekend, join me in honoring the positive contributions and lasting impacts driven by the Labor Community.
Working families are the backbone of Alameda County’s economic and social vitality.
This Labor Day and each day after, let’s continue to collectively uplift the worker movement, amplify the voices of working people, and strengthen our communities in District 2 and beyond!

The partnership offers a 12-week vocational training program in the field of construction for individuals who are incarcerated. The program aims to increase the well-being of participants, reduce recidivism, and provide a path towards employment upon release.

Recent federal legislation has set expiration dates for several clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act. If these upgrades are already on your radar, here's what you need to know:
Coming up soon:
Ending this year:
- 30% tax credits for heat pump water heaters, HVAC systems, and energy efficiency upgrades (up to $3,200): Expires December 31, 2025
- 30% tax credits for home battery systems and solar: Expires December 31, 2025
**For homeowners who lease a solar and/or battery system, the company that owns the system can still access the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) through the end of 2027 (solar) or 2035 (batteries). The ITC generally provides a 30% credit that can be passed through to customers who lease these systems.
You still have time:
- 30% tax credit for installing EV charging property at home (up to $1,000 per item): Expires June 30, 2026
Even with these federal changes, electric vehicles and home electrification remain smart long-term investments. EVs typically save owners thousands in fuel and maintenance costs over time, while electric appliances can improve your home’s comfort and air quality.
