Dear District 1,
As we continue through the month of May, I thank you all for your engagement and work in the community. Together, we are stronger and united. This month marks both Mental Health Awareness Month and Foster Care Awareness Month. These are both two important observances that remind us of the power of compassion, understanding, and support. Let's keep advocating for voices that are unheard and uplifting individuals and families in need of care and connection.
I encourage you to read on below to find out about the happenings in District 1 and future events.
As always, if there is anything that my office can do to assist you regarding County-specific matters, please feel free to reach out at bosdist1@acgov.org.
Sincerely,

David G. Haubert Alameda County Supervisor District 1
National Day of Prayer Recap
We were honored to host the sixth annual National Day of Prayer on May 1 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, where over 260 community members gathered—the largest turnout in the event’s history.
Organized by our District 1 Interfaith Advisory Council, the evening brought together faith leaders from Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Baha’i, Coptic Orthodox, and Christian communities, who offered prayers in various languages. Together, we reflected on shared values of compassion, unity, and service, with moving musical performances by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a formal presentation of colors by Parks Reserve Forces Training Area soldiers.
It was a powerful reminder of the strength in our diversity and the common hopes we hold for our leaders, families, and neighbors.
BAPS Charities Earth Day Initiative
For Earth Day 2025, BAPS Charities launched a special Earth Day initiative aimed at encouraging families to engage in hands-on environmental responsibility.
Over 300 plants and seed packets were distributed—one per family—with the invitation to plant them at home by Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22). Families were also encouraged to capture the moment together and upload their photo using a shared QR code link. This hands-on act fosters environmental responsibility, encourages family involvement, and builds a culture of sustainability within the community in the Bay Area.
Car Seat Check-Up Event
The Car Seat Check-Up event provided an invaluable service to the Fremont community. Approximately 30 families, including one expecting a new arrival, took advantage of this free safety check.
Kathryn Woolbright, the Injury Prevention Manager with Alameda County Emergency Medical Services, collaborated with our office and recent graduates from an intensive car seat safety training program to ensure the event's success.
Washington Health/Hospital generously offered their parking lot as the venue, where families arrived at scheduled appointment times. We had new car seats available on-site to replace any outdated or unsafe seats.
The highlight of the day was that all students worked diligently, and by the end of the event, everyone received certification as car seat safety specialists!
After the final appointment, I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to the students and participants for their dedication and hard work. Their efforts are truly lifesaving for our community.
Annual Sunol Bulky Waste Drop-off Day a Success
On Saturday, April 12th, my office, in partnership with Alameda County Public Works, Alameda County Sheriff’s office, and companies providing waste collection and disposal services, hosted the annual Sunol Bulky Waste Drop-off event and almost 100 Sunol residents participated. They dropped off a total of 26 pounds of pharmaceutical & medical supply waste, over 4000 fluorescent and LED light bulbs, a few dozen TV’s, laptops, and cell phones, 600 pounds of alkaline & lithium batteries, 4.75 tons of yard waste, 2.5 tons of scrap metal, 13.75 tons of furniture and other household items including 16 mattresses, and 6,860 pounds of paper for shredding.
I want to thank each of our partners in making this possible, including Alco Fire Chief Bonnie Terra and members of Alameda County Community Development Agency. I also want to thank Sunol constituents for making this a successful event, we look forward to doing it again next year!
