Dear District 1,
It’s hard to believe that February is already coming to an end! As we prepare to welcome March, we reflect on how quickly the year is moving and the progress we’ve made together. With spring just around the corner, I hope everyone is enjoying the weather and staying safe.
This month, we also took time to commemorate Black History Month, honoring the achievements, resilience, and contributions of Black leaders past and present. This year’s theme, "African Americans and Labor," recognizes the pivotal role Black workers, organizers, and leaders have played in shaping labor movements, advocating for fair working conditions, and driving economic progress throughout history. Here in Alameda County, we honor the contributions of Black workers, organizers, and leaders whose dedication has strengthened our community.
In this newsletter, we’re excited to introduce a brand-new segment: D1 Dave’s Department Highlight! This feature will showcase the outstanding work being done across departments, giving well-deserved recognition to the efforts and teams that keep everything running smoothly.
Read below for key updates and events as we transition into a new month!
As always, if there is anything that my office can do to assist you regarding County-specific matters, please feel free to reach out at bosdist1@acgov.org.
Sincerely,

David G. Haubert Alameda County Supervisor District 1

At the January 28, 2025, Board meeting, we proudly appointed Ursula Jones Dickson as Alameda County’s next District Attorney. With experience as both a Superior Court Judge and a former Deputy District Attorney, she is well-equipped to lead with integrity and fairness. I am eager to work with her and strengthen partnerships across County leadership, law enforcement, and the community.

Earlier this week, on the 25th, we hosted an incredible event at the Dublin Library with an outstanding turnout, where over 35 community and faith leaders throughout the Tri-Valley learned more about ways to support foster families and becoming resource parents to foster youth.
This Foster Family Town Hall connected numerous community members with County and non-profit resources. A special thank you to representatives of Senator Aisha Wahab, Senator Jerry McNerney, Supervisor Elisa Márquez, Supervisor Lena Tam, staff from Alameda County Social Services, leaders from 18 non-profits that serve this population, and everyone else involved in making this initiative a success.

My office and Supervisor Márquez's office remain committed to raising awareness how people can support foster youth and help them build a positive path toward adulthood.

Two of our superstar interns attended City of Fremont and FUSD Job and Intern Fair earlier this month. They were able to connect with students and families to share the amazing offerings of our District 1 Internship & Volunteer Program.
In addition to ours, booths from Glenmoor Gardens Homeowners Association, to Primerica, to Alameda County Fair and many more, greeted hundreds of excited teens and their families.

In partnership with the Livermore Valley Wine Growers Association staff & Board, I am very excited to announce the launch of The Global Artisan Vintners Alliance (AVA). In early 2024, I envisioned the concept of Sister Cities being applied to wine regions, so my staff and I, teamed up with the Livermore Valley Wine Growers Association and began the journey of developing a framework for bringing a valuable partnership opportunity to vetted sister wine region partners both in the US & globally. Last fall, during Livermore’s annual wine celebration TASTE, we invited representatives of prospective sister wine regions to visit our AVA and meet with wine, government, tourism, and economic development leaders to discuss the opportunity of becoming partners in launching this initiative. Their time with us proved tremendously valuable and those representatives felt passionately that this mutually beneficial partnership was an opportunity they wanted to be on the ground floor of creating.
In January, eight other co-founding member wine regions joined us in the Livermore Valley in signing an MOU to form the Global AVA. Our partners are the wine regions of Texas Hill Country in the USA, Dalmatia in Croatia, Alentejo in Portugal, Chinon in France, Badacsony in Hungary, Chilecito in Argentina, Vale dos Vinhedos in Brazil, and Baja California/Ensenada in Mexico. We are an alliance of collaborative partners who are committed to sharing winemaking techniques and emerging methods, being at the forefront of sustainable practices, sharing effective marketing and agri-tourism initiatives, facilitating student & professional intern exchange opportunities, and promoting the participating wine regions at a global level. The Alliance met over Zoom in early February for the inaugural virtual meeting hosted by our wine region, future meetings will occur bi-monthly with presentations and discussions on various topics being presented by industry leaders in each region. A Press Release was sent out to media partners around the world last week and on February 27th the Alliance hosted a global virtual Press Conference, over 25 wine industry press representatives joined the conference to cover this groundbreaking story.
To learn more about this initiative, our sister wine region partners, and the exciting forthcoming Inaugural Summit in Livermore later this year, follow the Alliance on Facebook and Instagram, or reach out to Supervisor Haubert’s staffer Lindsey at lindsey.knight@acgov.org.
