Supervisor's Message

d2 letterhead

Dear Community Partner,

As a first-generation college student receiving my entire education from our local public schools, I am passionate about providing youth with the resources to support their development and future journey.

Backpack give aways at community gatherings

While it’s hard to believe that back-to-school is just around the corner, the District 2 team has had a blast this summer connecting with so many youth residents across new and annual community gatherings.

Together, we distributed 800 free backpacks funded by my office, filled with essential school supplies and District 2 County Resource Guides to support students and their families!

Youth received backpacks filled with school basics, including pencils, paper, binders, rulers, and a variety of art supplies that will continue to make District 2 a welcoming and vibrant place to call home!

This month, I was also honored to speak at the much-anticipated Alameda County Fire Department’s 2024 Recruit Academy Class graduation.

Throughout their training, the Class of 2024 underwent rigorous physical and mental challenges, honing their skills and preparing themselves to face the demanding and often dangerous situation that firefighters encounter.

We are grateful for their commitment to our safety and look forward to seeing them in District 2 where Alameda County Fire Department’s roots within the community are deep, ever-expanding, and infinitely strong!

ACFD Pancake Breakfast

Did you know that Alameda County Firefighters host an annual Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast for the community at Station 27 in Newark?

In addition to their flapjack flipping skills, firefighters are amazing at fostering community with residents and service-based organizations on top of their first responder duties.

I also want to thank the Fremont Fire Department for hosting me and my staff at the annual Fremont Fourth of July Parade! The Parade’s broad coalition of community volunteers who help to create this sense of belonging is another reason why I am proud to call Alameda County District 2 home.

4th of July Parade

I look forward to continuing to carry forward that spirit of inclusion and hands-on partnership in service to Alameda County residents and our region’s most important issues, including public safety.

Please continue to stay safe this summer with AC Alert updates and resources from Alameda County Health such as water safety.

Plus, stay tuned for more information about the return of Science in the Park presented by District 2 on Saturday, October 5 at Cal State East Bay in Hayward!

Recycle

It is an honor to “Connect, Engage, and Serve” you, your loved ones, and our community.

Regional Affordable Housing Bond Advances to November Ballot

Affordable Housing Bond

On June 26, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) Board unanimously approved placing a $20 billion Bay Area Affordable Housing Bond on the November 2024 ballot in the nine Bay Area counties. If voters approve the measure, funds will be used to build new affordable housing and keep existing housing affordable throughout the region.

This action follows two years of public engagement and consideration by BAHFA’s governing bodies, and earlier approvals by the Association of Bay Area Governments Executive Board and the BAHFA Advisory Committee. Read more in the new release.

Regional Affordable Housing Bond Report

In advance of the Board’s action, BAHFA prepared a comprehensive report about the bond, “The Bay Area Affordable Housing Bond: Regional Funding for Local Solutions,” including information about:

  • Why the bond is needed and what it could accomplish.
  • How bond funds will be distributed and spent.
  • Accountability and oversight over bond funds.
