Dear District 3 Community,
In this edition, we are thrilled to spotlight the incredible community events we have attended. June 2024 has been a remarkable month, with the County of Alameda Board of Supervisors proclaiming it as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Pride Month. Additionally, June 19, 2024, was designated as Juneteenth to honor the progress, resilience, and contributions of African Americans to American history. We also celebrated the ribbon-cutting of Casa Sueños in Oakland Fruitvale Village and observed National Immigrant Heritage Month and World Refugee Day, a time to recognize the strength and courage of immigrants and refugees worldwide and to honor their contributions.
The District 3 team has been actively engaging with the community, and I am excited to share our progress, highlight the County’s work, and feature upcoming community events, resources, and opportunities in this newsletter.
This month, I had the pleasure of participating in several notable events, including the Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission’s Women Veterans Recognition Day at the Alameda Naval Air Station, the first Oakland Town Nights of the summer at San Antonio Park, and the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Awards in Oakland. I hope you all had a fantastic Juneteenth celebration filled with joy and reflection. Let us continue to honor and highlight the significance of Juneteenth in our shared journey towards equality and freedom for all.
Thank you to everyone who visited the District 3 Team at the San Leandro Cherry Festival. The event was incredibly successful with a great turnout, and my Interim Chief of Staff was honored to participate in the parade. Additionally, it was a privilege for the District 3 Team to attend the Pride flag-raising ceremonies at Oakland City Hall and San Leandro Main Public Library.
We are excited to join the Alameda 4th of July Parade at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Park Street and Lincoln Avenue in Alameda, CA. We look forward to seeing you there. For more details, please check out the rest of this newsletter.
We invite you to join the District 3 staff at the Oakland AAPI and African American Solidarity Walk every first Tuesday of the month. This event promotes unity and support for both the AAPI and African American communities. Your presence will help strengthen community bonds and amplify our shared commitment to social justice and equality.

The County of Alameda Board of Supervisors proudly proclaims June 2024 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Pride Month! This month, celebrated nationwide, honors the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, a pivotal moment in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Alameda County is dedicated to promoting equality, justice, and human rights for all, standing against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Let's use this time to engage in dialogue, foster understanding, and build strong alliances across communities. Join us in celebrating our vibrant and diverse LGBTQ+ community and work together for a more inclusive and just society.

The County of Alameda proclaimed June 19, 2024, as Juneteenth to honor African American resilience and contributions to American history. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger declared the end of the Civil War and emancipated the remaining slaves in Texas, following President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Let's remember, celebrate, and reflect to honor the courage and heritage of African Americans.
The City of Oakland proudly raised the Pride Flag to celebrate Pride Month, embodying love, diversity, and inclusion. This symbolic gesture honors the LGBTQ+ community's resilience and ongoing fight for equality, inviting all to join in celebrating our shared commitment to acceptance and unity. Throughout June, Oakland will host events fostering understanding and solidarity, ensuring a vibrant celebration that embraces diversity and advocates for a more inclusive future.

My team attended the #SanLeandro #CherryFestival and Parade, a day filled with music, food, and fun! The San Leandro Cherry Festival, a cherished tradition since 1909, celebrates the community's past, present, and future. Despite changes over the years, the festival continues to foster a strong sense of community identity and pride.
|
Happy Pride Month! The County of Alameda has proudly raised the Pride Flag, symbolizing our commitment to celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This vibrant flag serves as a reminder of the progress we have made and the work that still lies ahead in the fight for equality and inclusion. Let's come together this month to honor the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ individuals who make our community stronger. Join us in celebrating love, acceptance, and pride!

It was great to attend the first Oakland Town Nights of the summer at San Antonio Park! We celebrated the grand reopening of the tennis courts with massages, chiropractic alignments, haircuts, braiding, a wellness clinic offering COVID-19 tests and vaccines, as well as glucose and blood pressure checks. Delicious food, music, and a thrilling roller rink under the stars made it unforgettable. Thank you to the City of Oakland Department of Violence Prevention, Freedom Community Clinic, La Familia, Resilient Fruitvale, Trybe, Alameda Public Health Department, and all the incredible community partners who made this event possible!

To promote a culture of safety and discourage the increasing number of illegally parked vehicles, AC Transit will begin using automated bus lane enforcement citations along the entirety of the Tempo corridor starting Sunday, June 16.
Any vehicle illegally parking in a bus only lane, including taxis, rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft, and delivery trucks, will be subject to a $110 fine. This fine must be paid within 21 days of issuance.
AC Transit was instrumental in passing laws such as AB 917, which now allows transit agencies across the state to use forward-facing cameras to cite vehicles illegally parked in transit-only lanes. Tempo Line 1-T's forward-facing cameras began issuing citations in November 2020, following extensive public outreach and education efforts that started in September 2019.

With the leadership of Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, California was able to create, for the very first time, innovative access programs for children and families to explore California’s State Park System. Via the new California State Park Adventure and State Library Parks Pass programs and a revamped Golden Bear Pass Program, California is promoting a healthier, more equitable California for all. This effort helps advance the Newsom Administration’s “California Outdoors for All” initiative to enable all Californians, regardless of zip code or income, to access parks and open spaces.
