News and Updates

Dear District 3 Community,

In this edition, we are thrilled to spotlight the incredible community events we have attended. June 2024 has been a remarkable month, with the County of Alameda Board of Supervisors proclaiming it as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Pride Month. Additionally, June 19, 2024, was designated as Juneteenth to honor the progress, resilience, and contributions of African Americans to American history. We also celebrated the ribbon-cutting of Casa Sueños in Oakland Fruitvale Village and observed National Immigrant Heritage Month and World Refugee Day, a time to recognize the strength and courage of immigrants and refugees worldwide and to honor their contributions.

The District 3 team has been actively engaging with the community, and I am excited to share our progress, highlight the County’s work, and feature upcoming community events, resources, and opportunities in this newsletter.

This month, I had the pleasure of participating in several notable events, including the Alameda County Veterans Affairs Commission’s Women Veterans Recognition Day at the Alameda Naval Air Station, the first Oakland Town Nights of the summer at San Antonio Park, and the Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom Awards in Oakland. I hope you all had a fantastic Juneteenth celebration filled with joy and reflection. Let us continue to honor and highlight the significance of Juneteenth in our shared journey towards equality and freedom for all.

Thank you to everyone who visited the District 3 Team at the San Leandro Cherry Festival. The event was incredibly successful with a great turnout, and my Interim Chief of Staff was honored to participate in the parade. Additionally, it was a privilege for the District 3 Team to attend the Pride flag-raising ceremonies at Oakland City Hall and San Leandro Main Public Library.

We are excited to join the Alameda 4th of July Parade at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Park Street and Lincoln Avenue in Alameda, CA. We look forward to seeing you there. For more details, please check out the rest of this newsletter.

2024.06.04 Oakland Chinatown Walk

We invite you to join the District 3 staff at the Oakland AAPI and African American Solidarity Walk every first Tuesday of the month. This event promotes unity and support for both the AAPI and African American communities. Your presence will help strengthen community bonds and amplify our shared commitment to social justice and equality.

Date: Every First Tuesday of Each Month

Time: 11:00 a.m.

AC Transit: Automated Bus Lane Enforcement Citations

Begin Sunday, June 16, 2024

AC Transit Bus Lane

To promote a culture of safety and discourage the increasing number of illegally parked vehicles, AC Transit will begin using automated bus lane enforcement citations along the entirety of the Tempo corridor starting Sunday, June 16.

Any vehicle illegally parking in a bus only lane, including taxis, rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft, and delivery trucks, will be subject to a $110 fine. This fine must be paid within 21 days of issuance.

AC Transit was instrumental in passing laws such as AB 917, which now allows transit agencies across the state to use forward-facing cameras to cite vehicles illegally parked in transit-only lanes. Tempo Line 1-T's forward-facing cameras began issuing citations in November 2020, following extensive public outreach and education efforts that started in September 2019.
