ALL IN Eats Wins National Award
On Monday, ALL IN Eats was recognized with a 2022 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents and communities. In 2021, ALL IN Recipe4Health also received an Achievement Award from NACo.
South County and East Oakland Food Hubs Receive Funding
Congressman Ro Khanna and the late Supervisor Wilma Chan toured Tri City Volunteers Food Bank in Fremont last year.
Thanks to Congressmember Ro Khanna, a federal earmark of $1M was secured to help build out a Food Hub in South County.
The Black Cultural Zone was awarded a $600,000 grant from the Stupski Foundation to support development of a Food Hub at the Arroyo Viejo Recreation Center in East Oakland. A big thank you to everyone who worked on or supported the grant, CJ Johnson with the Black Cultural Zone, Oakland City Councilmember Loren Taylor, Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Activities League (DSAL), and ALL IN Eats. The Arroyo Viejo Food Hub is being developed by the City of Oakland, Black Cultural Zone, and DSAL.
ALL IN Eats has a goal to establish additional Food Hubs over the next five years, with one in each Supervisorial District. The Alameda County Board of Supervisors approved critical seed funding for Food Hub pre-development costs, but most of the funding will need to be raised from state, federal, and philanthropic sources. The Food Hubs provide commercial kitchen space to low income micro-entrepreneurs to grow their food businesses. The Food Hubs will ultimately be self-sustaining with rental fees covering the cost of operating the facilities.
We Grow Medicine Mural Unveiled!
A cornucopia of fruits and vegetables were the centerpiece of a ribbon cutting for a new mural at DSAL’s Dig Deep Farms, “We Grow Medicine!”. Nearly 100 people gathered for the event to unveil the mural and celebrate the work of ALL IN’s Recipe4Health program, which is critically woven into the All In Eats Circular Food Economy as the majority of the produce grown on DDF is the medicine being prescribed and delivered to patients throughout the county.
The event honored the partners who make the R4H program a success, including ALL IN Alameda County, Open Source Wellness, and local community clinics partners: Alameda Health System – Hayward Wellness Center, Bay Area Community Health, LifeLong Medical Care, Native American Health Center, and Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center.

Black Farmer Collaborative Launches
Interest was high as over a dozen prospective farmers gathered at the 10-acre Masonic Homes Farm property in Union City slated for the Black Farmer Collaborative. The event convened by Common Vision began with a moving ceremony honoring the ancestors. Attendees heard from DSAL’s Dig Deep Farms and Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) personnel about opportunities to create a farm collaborative. Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle, the City of Union City, Masonic Homes of California, the ACSO, and other public sector partners worked for over nine years to make the land available. A big thanks to Wanda Stewart at Common Vision for her outreach and recruitment efforts that made the event possible!
