Dear Friends,
This week marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time when we must reflect on our Nation’s history and the centuries of sacrifices that civil rights leaders made to secure and protect the civil liberties of African Americans. From Frederick Douglass’ antislavery writings to Jackie Robinson’s perseverance in the face of overwhelming discrimination in the MLB, African Americans from all facets of American life must be celebrated and honored. Furthermore, I am committed to working with our communities toward furthering social justice, as there is much more work still to be done. All forms of community engagement are welcomed in my office, whether you have concerns, ideas, or if you simply want to get to know how our County operates. So, please read below for District 1 updates and let us know how we can work with you to improve our communities.

Rural Roads Meeting
Supervisor David Haubert welcomes you and your neighbors to another Rural Roads Meeting on February 23, from 6:00PM-7:30PM. Comprised of an ad hoc group of interested residents and property owners that live along rural County roads in District 1, the Rural Roads Group aims to develop and implement strategies to address traffic impacts to Unincorporated Eastern Alameda County Rural Roads as a result of chronic congestion on I-580. Attending the meetings are County representatives from Public Works, the Planning Department, the Sheriff’s department, the Dublin office of the California Highway Patrol, and Code Enforcement.
Through collaborative efforts with our partners at County and State agencies, residents and businesses, the Rural Roads Group works within the confines of limited legal and regulatory constraints in an ongoing effort to manage the traffic impacts to these roads. Equine Town Hall

 Supervisor Haubert was proud to present a proclamation to Ritu Maheshwari for the Federation of Indo Americans, the Fremont Hindu Temple, Festival of Globe Silicon Valley, Dr. Romesh Japra, Rajesh Verma, and all those responsible for organizing the Republic Day Celebrations at the Fremont Hindu Temple. Republic Day is an Indian holiday that celebrates the beginning of the Indian Republic after the Nation achieved independence from the British Empire.
From the year 1857 until 1947, India saw countless rebellions and revolutionary movements, resulting in tremendous sacrifices on behalf of those who were determined to bring self-rule to the Nation of India. Supervisor David Haubert admires the patriotism and cultural solidarity evident in the Indian community’s efforts to plan this annual event and is looking forward to next year’s celebrations!
 Unauthorized Testing Sites
Recently, the Office of the Alamea County District Attorney issued a warning regarding unauthorized “pop-up” COVID testing sites. District Attorney Nancy O’Malley’s office listed the following signs that could indicate an unauthorized site:
- Asking for too much personal information, such as social security, driver’s license, and bank account numbers. Such information could be used for identity theft.
- Unsanitary conditions, including staff not wearing masks and gloves.
- Not returning test results in a timely manner. In most cases, expect antigen test results to be available in a matter of hours and PCR tests in two to three days.
Additionally, the District Attorney’s warning highlights that pop-up sites should be able to provide the name and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification number of the laboratory used to process their tests. Certifications can be verified using the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services CLIA search tool.

Fremont PD Food Collection for Homeless
This February 12 at 10AM, Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington invites you to donate food items at 40950 Chapel Way in Fremont. Food items to be donated could include:
- Cereal
- Cookies
- Fresh fruit, fruit juices, and dry fruit.
- Bread
- Bagels
- Cheese
- Water
- Milk
- Cooked food in lunchboxes for same day distribution, like sandwiches, noodles, omelets, pasta, or chicken rotisseries.

Public Member Applications
The Alameda Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) is accepting applications for the
public member seat. The deadline for filing an application is Friday, March 4, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.
The Commission will review each application and supplemental questionnaire and expects to
conduct interviews the week of March 28, 2022.
LAFCO is responsible for coordinating logical and timely changes in local governmental
boundaries, conducting special studies that review ways to reorganize, simplify, and streamline
governmental structure, and establishing planning spheres of influence for each city and special
district within the County.
