About the Speaker

Lisa Greif is a Supervising Attorney with Bay Area Legal Aid's Alameda County Housing Unit. She has over 17 years of experience in affordable housing preservation and she has represented individuals and tenant associations in numerous cases, including eviction defense, Section 8 termination hearings, and fair housing enforcement.

Program Description
HERA (Housing & Economic Rights Advocates) staff attorneys will explain key concerns and key documents that will help you address handling your belongings and your health the way you want to. 

Those documents include:

  •  Living trust
  •  Will
  •  Power of attorney
  •  Advance health care directive
  • Transfer on death documents for certain kinds of accounts

About the Speakers

Irene Zhu is a Staff Attorney at HERA, focusing on estate planning and educational workshops. Prior to joining HERA, Ms. Zhu worked with clients of diverse backgrounds in estate planning and immigration law at private firms. Her most recent experience at the US Attorney’s Office ignited her passion for serving the public. An immigrant herself, she is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and is familiar with obstacles faced by first-generation immigrants.

Kendra Bowen is a Senior Attorney at HERA, focusing her practice solely on estate planning - the legal work necessary to prevent probate. As a California native, Kendra receives great satisfaction in using the law to help other California residents avoid the time consuming, costly, and disruptive probate process. Ms. Bowen guides her clients through the estate planning process in a fun and efficient way, and her positive approach and knowledge of estate planning law ensures that each client makes the right decisions for their estate and family. Having completed thousands of estate plans, Ms. Bowen feels as if she has worked through nearly every possible family and estate situation, including her own journey with now two deceased parents. Ms. Bowen has been with HERA since 2017 and maintained her own private practice prior to joining HERA.

Health Benefits Coverage Under Federal Law

Program Description 

The Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) will present on Health Benefits Coverage under Federal Law. This presentation is aimed to assist employers in complying with federal laws related to employer sponsored health benefits. We recognize that understanding and complying with DOL regulations can be challenging especially for small and medium sized employers with limited time, resources and/or access to professional assistance.

This workshop will provide updates to the law and helpful compliance tips regarding federal health benefits laws.

Topics EBSA will discuss include:

  • COBRA continuation coverage
  • COBRA premium assistance under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021
  • COVID-19 disaster relief
  • HIPAA special enrollment
  • Disclosure requirements to plan participants and beneficiaries

About the Speaker

Cristina Collazo has been a Senior Benefits Advisor at the United States Department of Labor, Employee Benefit Security Administration (EBSA) since 2009. Cristina assists participants and plan officials on a wide range of health and retirement plan issues. Before joining EBSA, Cristina worked in a variety of public and private sector employment. Cristina is a member of the California bar and holds a B.A. from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco,
