RESTRAINING ORDERS AND VIRTUAL COURT 101 

Virtual panel presentation with attorneys from the Family Violence Law Center

Wednesday October 27, 12 - 1 PST

No MCLE credit

The Family Violence Law Center, which provides free legal services in any language to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in Alameda County, will provide a brief introduction to restraining orders with a specific focus on current virtual practices and court procedures.

Topics will include:

  • an introduction to different types of restraining orders and the
    legal forms required
  • best practices when filling out restraining order forms
  • how to file, pick up, and serve restraining orders
  • how to submit evidence and access remote hearings

Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the current Alameda County practices regarding restraining orders, increasing the odds of success in their cases.

NAVIGATING THE NEW TOWN SQUARE: Cultivating Competency in Basic Online Legal Research

     The goal of this course is to assist attorneys in navigating online legal research so they feel more confident and competent when researching subjects important to their work.

     After completing the course you will be able to --

• Find out methods for conducting research with different full citations and names of statutes.
• Gain an understanding of how online platforms have been enhanced to predict what you’re looking for.
• Ascertain the multiple ways to filter your searches before and after searching for specific terms.
• Discover different search term approaches: natural language as well as terms and connectors.
• Realize the many different ways you can analyze your search results list.
• Understand citator services in which cases and statutes can be validated.
• Organize and save items found conducting online legal research

From the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda -- In order to prepare for the Court’s October 12 eCourt go live, DomainWeb will be unavailable from the close of business on Thursday, October 7, until the morning of October 12. Users will be able to access their rulings, and civil case records, calendars and documents in the new Public Portal starting on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. More info
