Have Symptoms? Frontline Worker? Get Tested!

We want you to get tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms, or are a frontline worker who regularly interacts with the public. Not only will this help keep you safe, but it provides our County with more data on the advancement of the disease, which helps us slow the spread.

For several months not enough tests were available in Alameda County due to a nationwide lack of supplies. Now, we have the capacity to test more people than are currently getting tests. Don't hesitate to get tested!

If you have symptoms or are a frontline worker, contact your healthcare provider or visit the County's testing website below for a list of available testing locations. Please note that most sites require you to schedule your appointment beforehand online or over the phone. Drive-up and walk-up testing is available, and there are ways to get tested if you don't have insurance.

Two Updates to the Shelter in Place

Storefront Pickup, Manufacturing, and Warehousing May Resume

Thanks to residents’ efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Alameda County, thousands of lives have been saved. While the past two months have been difficult, our local Shelter-in-Place order has protected the County’s most vulnerable residents and the health care systems.

Nearly two weeks ago the local Order was modified to allow some low-risk outdoor activities and all construction; and beginning May 8th, the State moved into the early phase of Stage 2 of its Resilience Roadmap, allowing certain retail activities to resume. Alameda County is using the State’s Roadmap as a guide but will be moving at a timeline based on local data and pandemic conditions. At this time, the data and response infrastructure permit the County to safely move into Early Stage 2 this week.

“While the data is moving in the right direction, we are monitoring the five indicators with vigilance and caution,” said Dr. Erica Pan, Health Officer for Alameda County. Early Stage 2 include curbside or storefront retail (customers may walk up to the store to pick up pre-ordered goods) and manufacturing & warehouses. It does not include other office workplaces, or additional industries authorized by the State for some other counties that have applied to move faster, like malls and dine-in restaurants.

Businesses that may resume operations at this time include:

• Retail stores for curbside or storefront pickup, and/or delivery only

• Manufacturing businesses permitted to operate under the state Resilience Roadmap

• Logistics and Warehousing permitted to operate under the state Resilience Roadmap

Highly-Regulated Car Gatherings Allowed

As the months of shelter-in-place go on, we all miss the types of community gatherings which bring us together in community. However, close physical proximity to one another is exactly what allows the COVID-19 virus to spread. To stay safe we must find ways to balance our need for community with safety protocols which protect us. Car gatherings are one such method for us to come together, while minimizing the dangers of COVID-19.

Alameda County is now allowing car gatherings with certain regulations, for events such as graduations and religious ceremonies. Each car may only have residents of the same household.

“These gatherings are considered fairly low risk, but only if all rules are followed,” said Dr. Pan. As with other Health Officer Orders, enforcement and compliance rests with local law enforcement agencies. “Our cities and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department have been true partners in protecting the health of our shared community and we look forward to continuing this important work together.”

This order permits gatherings of up to 200 cars at a time, for no longer than 3 hours. For the full list of conditions and more information click here.

Watch my Census Town Hall!

AA Census 2020

This week myself and Supervisor Keith Carson joined with community leaders and the public in a virtual town hall to discuss creative ways to raise awareness about CENSUS 2020 in the African American and Latinx communities.

We addressed challenges to census participation
such as the digital disconnect, seniors sheltering in
place alone, disability, homelessness, low interest, and mistrust of the government. We also discussed next steps and creative ways to get the word out.

It is important that EVERYONE in Alameda County be counted. Let’s rally for one big push to promote Census Self Response! Watch the town hall here!

Help Shape Alameda County's Mental Health System!

Alameda County Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) wants to make sure your voice is heard! Do you have great ideas to help decrease homelessness and improve mental health services in Alameda County? Can the County be doing more to support mental health needs in your community?

We want you to provide recommendations on how to improve mental health services for you, your friends, or family members.

The MHSA is a 1% tax on income over $1M which supports mental health services in Alameda County. This year the County is conducting a community survey to gather input on how to utilize those funds.

The survey is available in multiple languages and closes on May 30, 2020. Spread the word to friends, family, members, providers, and any resident of Alameda County.

Complete the survey and get more info by visiting their website at https://acmhsa.org
