Youth Beat presents DISPLACED, a short documentary examining the rampant gentrification taking place in Oakland, and the displacement crisis that is reshaping our city.

Following the documentary screening will be a Q&A panel featuring the youth filmmakers of the documentary. We will also be opening up the panel for a community forum where audience members will exchange dialogue, discuss solutions, and implement strategies to resolve Oakland’s gentrification crisis.

Youth Beat is a fiscally-sponsored nonprofit that partners with KDOL-TV to provide high-quality media arts training to over 400 Oakland students each year -- mostly low-income students growing up in East and West Oakland.

HOW TO BECOME A GRAND JUROR

Applications for Grand Jury service are accepted throughout the year. Official recruitment begins in January and final selection of the jury takes place at a public hearing shortly before July 1st of each year. Grand Jurors serve for one fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

The qualifications to become a grand juror require:

  • US citizenship
  • Residence in Alameda County for at least one year
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Sufficient knowledge of the English language

A Family-Driven Team Approach

This training will provide participants with knowledge of early childhood mental health (ECMH) services in Alameda County. The presenters will describe ECMH therapy, support services, including the role of Family Partners, and a description of mental health consultation in child care programs. Participants will learn about signs that a referral to ECMH services may be needed and current resources available.

Opioid Overdose Responder & Naloxone Training

Alameda County Health Care for the Homeless is providing opioid overdose responder and naloxone training. This training will prepare individual participants with the knowledge to comfortably assess and respond to an opioid overdose including the use of naloxone, an opioid overdose rescue medication.

Census 2020 Student Video PSA Contest

The Alameda County Office of Education wants student-created public service announcements (PSAs) that help our community understand the importance of being counted in 2020.

1st Place = $1,500

2nd Place = $1,000

3rd Place = $500

Top entries will be posted all over social media, and shared with news media and the Alameda County education community. The winner will be shown at the Chase Center and an Alameda County Board of Education meeting.

  • Videos must promote participation in the 2020 Census with the theme of You Count - Be Counted
  • Videos must be made by K-12 student(s) in Alameda County, individually or on a team
  • Videos can be in ANY language
  • Videos must be 60 seconds or shorter

Entries must be submitted by 11:59pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020 - no exceptions!

Civicorps fosters a supportive environment, where students LEARN, EARN and GROW

As of January 2020, each student can design a schedule that meets their portfolio and academic needs, and aligns with their commitments outside of Civicorps.  Students will be allowed to move into paid Job Training upon completion of a baseline of onboarding activities.

Each student can now select from:

  • Part-time or full-time academic options
  • Morning, afternoon, evening or full day options
  • 3-day and 5-day per week options

And remember, we’re now opening our doors every week to new enrollees.  Every Tuesday at 10AM, new students can get started on the path to earning a high school diploma.  Must be 18-26 years old to enroll.
