For more than 10 years, the Ready to Learn Fun Fair has been a highly valued resource for hundreds of families across Alameda County.

Hosted by Supervisor Carson, Ready to Learn Fun Fair provides families with information about local community resources in the areas of education, nutrition, social services, exercise and the arts.

In addition, there will be musical performances, a clown show, and the popular television character Clifford the Big Red Dog will be in attendance to promote reading as a fun activity.

Entrance to the fair is FREE and all children that attend will receive a complimentary book. ​

Census 2020 Ambassador Program

Are you a trusted messenger and wish to lead outreach in your community? Apply to join Alameda County's Census Ambassador Program!

What is it? A once in a decade chance to count everyone to bring money, data, and decision makers to our communities.

Why does it matter? Alameda County has 413,000 residents who are considered “Hard-to-Count,” such as seniors, young children, immigrants, and low income individuals.

What can you do to ensure our community counts? As trusted community members, we invite you to volunteer as an Ambassador to educate residents about the census and motivate your communities to get counted.

  • Become an Expert on Census 2020
  • Conduct Outreach in Your Community
  • Keep Your Community Informed
  • Access Ambassador-Exclusive Resources

International High School Essay Contest

As part of our Achievement week activities, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc is hosting our annual High School Essay contest for High School seniors with a first prize (international) of a $5000 scholarship along with local awards from the Alpha Rho Chapter in Berkeley, CA of up to $2000.

This year's essay topic is: “The U.S. Census projects that the United States will become a majority-minority country by the year 2045. How can we combat, prevent and/or reduce prejudice, discrimination and violence in a new, more diverse America?” (700-750 words)

Oakland Unite

Community Healing Mini-Grants Opportunity

Oakland Unite is proud to announce the first Community Healing Mini-Grants funding opportunity, in partnership with Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth, Urban Peace Movement, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice, Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency, and Roots Community Health Center.

Over $400,000 in Mini-Grant funding from the City of Oakland will be issued through Oakland Unite's Community Healing partner agencies. Mini-Grants of up to $15,000 for small non-profit organizations and up to $5,000 for individuals will be awarded.

There is an entire street dedicated to kids and family attractions with a root beer garden where root beer floats abound. There will also be hundreds of vendors with clothes, crafts and of course plenty of great food options.
