The Bonta California Progress Foundation invites the following students to submit an application in response to this scholarship announcement:

The Foundation highly encourages applicants who are low-income and/or from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply.

In 2017, Assemblymember Rob Bonta launched the Foundation with the purpose of supporting communities, organizations, and individuals that lift up the social, economic, educational, civic, and environmental well-being of Californians and advance progressive values in California and around the world. To this end, the Foundation will provide a limited number of scholarships to students with a record of academic achievement, leadership, and service to their communities, who would benefit from additional support to realize a higher education.

Disbursement of awards will be contingent upon proof of registration or enrollment in an institute of higher education (including technical schools, community colleges, and four-year colleges). Awardees will also be expected to submit a brief report, summarizing their academic and professional work during the 2019-2020 academic year, by May 1, 2020.

Community Forum: African American Holistic Resource Center Feasibility Study

The findings and recommendations in the African American Holistic Resource Center (AAHRC) Feasibility Study offers guidance in order to assist with making informed decisions regarding next steps in the development of the AAHRC in the City of Berkeley.

Socioeconomic factors, birth outcomes, morbidity and mortality rates that stretch across the life span of African Americans indicates that they are not thriving in the City of Berkeley.  The results from this feasibility study clearly illustrate that Black individuals and families in Berkeley are not experiencing optimal life outcomes.  Therefore, it is essential that a paradigm shift in the delivery of care and services for this population takes place.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is holding two encore open houses for the Macarthur Maze (Maze) Vertical Clearance project. Caltrans is proposing to partially lower, raise, replace, or reconstruct connectors in the Maze. These four alternatives are being proposed to increase the vertical clearances at three locations in the Maze to meet the current Caltrans standard of 16 feet 6 inches to allow for more efficient travel of freight and oversized vehicles.

HOW TO BECOME A GRAND JUROR

Applications for Grand Jury service are accepted throughout the year. Official recruitment begins in January and final selection of the jury takes place at a public hearing shortly before July 1st of each year. Grand Jurors serve for one fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

The qualifications to become a grand juror require:

• US citizenship
• Residence in Alameda County for at least one year
• At least 18 years of age
• Sufficient knowledge of the English language
