VALENCIA ROAD RIBBON CUTTING
Media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting of the Valencia Road Improvement Project, from Kolb Road to Houghton Road.
The event celebrates the completion of the Valencia Road Improvement Project, which includes a range of improvements designed to enhance safety, mobility and access along the corridor. The project is part of the 2006 voter-approved Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan and marks the completion of a major regional transportation investment.
Join City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, the Ward 4 Council Office, the Regional Transportation Authority and the City’s Department of Transportation and Mobility as we celebrate the completion of the Valencia Road Improvement Project.
Valencia Road Ribbon Cutting Friday, Oct. 9, from 9 – 10 a.m. Harrison Greenway Parking Lot, 9357 E Valencia Road
The Valencia Road Improvement Project began in November 2024, with initial construction activities concentrated on the north side of the roadway. Early work included completion of the multi-use path and base paving on the north side, establishing the foundation for the roadway expansion.
The Valencia Road Improvement Project includes a range of improvements designed to enhance safety, mobility and access along the corridor. Improvements to the nearly four-mile project include widening Valencia Road to a six-lane roadway with a median, upgrading traffic signals and intersections at Old Vail Road and Nexus Road, and making drainage improvements to provide all-weather access during storms. The project also includes a smoother asphalt surface, bicycle facilities, ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities, native landscaping, Dark Sky-compliant roadway lighting and public art.
About the Regional Transportation Authority
The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) helps fund, plan, and build transportation projects across Pima County. Voters approved a 20-year $2.67 billion regional transportation plan on March 10, 2026, along with a half-cent sales tax to fund it.
