City of Tucson Ward 5 Council Member Selina Barajas Launches First-Ever Movies in the Park Series, Sponsored by Tucson Electric Power (TEP)
Three-part family-friendly movie series brings
community, entertainment, and activities to Ward 5 parks
Community members are invited to enjoy a new series of free, family-friendly movie nights under the stars as Council Member Selina Barajas, in partnership with Tucson Electric Power (TEP) and community nonprofit Mini Poderosas, launches Ward 5’s first-ever Movies in the Park series.
The three-part series will bring free movies, family activities, and community connection to three Ward 5 parks this fall:
Saturday, September 19 - Silverlake Park, 2420 S. Kino Parkway
Movie: GOAT
Saturday, October 3 - Santa Rita Park, 401 E. 22nd St.
Movie: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Saturday, October 24 - CSM Martin R. "Gunny" Barreras Memorial Park,
5890 S. Campbell Ave.
Movie: Coco
Activities will begin at 6 p.m. with movies beginning at dusk each evening. Food trucks will be on-site, offering food and refreshments for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring two cans of non-perishable food items to donate to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, to support neighbors in need this holiday season. Attendees are welcome to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the movies comfortably. The movies will begin after dusk.
The series is made possible through a generous donation from TEP to Mini Poderosas, a nonprofit community organization that provides young girls ages 8–18 with opportunities to develop confidence, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence. The series is also supported through a partnership with the Ward 5 Council Office.
“Elevating our parks and creating welcoming spaces for our elders, youth, and families is a top priority for me,” said Council Member Selina Barajas. “Movies in the Park gives us an opportunity to bring our community together, enjoy our beautiful parks, and create lasting memories with our families and neighbors. I am grateful to TEP and Mini Poderosas for helping make this first-ever Ward 5 series possible.”
The Movies in the Park series represents a new opportunity for Tucson’s Southside community to gather and enjoy family-friendly entertainment in neighborhood parks. Each evening will feature activities before the movie, creating a welcoming environment for residents of all ages.
“TEP is thrilled to support Council Member Barajas and Ward 5 in bringing these events to the community,” said Steven Eddy, Director of Public Affairs for TEP. “As temperatures begin to cool, Movies in the Park will create meaningful opportunities for families, friends, and neighbors to reconnect, strengthen community bonds, and enjoy our city's parks together.”
TEP’s donation, which continues a longtime partnership with the City of Tucson in service to our community, will be paid for through corporate resources, not customer rates.
