|
On September 5, 2026, at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers responded to Thomas Jay Regional Park, located at 6465 S. Craycroft Road, after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a 19-year-old male with gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began providing aid until Tucson Fire Department personnel arrived. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim, identified as 19-year-old Anthony Estevan Mendoza Valenzuela, was pronounced deceased at the scene. TPD Homicide detectives responded and continued the investigation.
Through witness interviews and evidence collected at the scene, detectives determined that Mendoza Valenzuela had been at the park with several people before the shooting. Investigators identified 20-year-old Fabian Arias-Sierra as the suspect. The following day, officers with Operations Division East/Community Response Team located Arias-Sierra on Tucson’s Eastside. Homicide detectives interviewed Arias-Sierra and subsequently charged him with 2nd degree murder. He was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. Currently, detectives are not seeking any additional suspects. Investigators will present their findings to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review.
