KIDCO After School Registration Has Begun
Tucson Parks and Recreation will offer its KIDCO After School program for the 2026-2027 school year. This program offers safe and structured activities for ages 5-11 years old (must be currently enrolled in kindergarten), from school dismissal until 6 p.m. Planned activities may include sports, games, fitness, arts and crafts, performing arts, and special events. The program is closed on all City and school holidays or breaks.
Dates: Aug. 6, 2026-May 25, 2027 (excluding City holidays and school breaks)
Cost: $675/school year for City residents or $1,012.50/school year for non-City residents.
Registration: Begins online on Saturday, July 25, at 8 a.m
Free SAEC Back-to-School Backpack Distribution
The Southern Arizona Education Council (SAEC) has launched a new website connecting families with free backpack pickup locations and back-to-school events across Tucson, helping students begin the school year prepared for success.
This effort aims to expand access to free backpacks filled with school supplies through multiple City of Tucson ward offices while highlighting additional back-to-school events hosted by community organizations throughout the region. Families can choose the pickup location or event most convenient for them while supplies last.
Fall Victim Advocate training: PCAO Victim Services, Advocacy And Volunteer OpportunityAugust 11 & 18
Pima County will be conducting our Fall Crisis Intervention and Victimology training starting September 1, 2026 and would like to share this information with you and the community.
Details to the preferred information session will be sent to all confirmed attendees once we’re closer to the date(s). Please be aware that while the info sessions have an online/virtual component the training itself is in person. If you can’t make this training, please keep in mind we hold this training in Spring, Summer and Fall.

Food 4 Life Free Food Distribution Saturday, August 15 At AM
The BICAS Beer for Bikes: Art for Auction will be held Thursday, August From 5 PM to 9 PM
The fourth annual BICAS Beer for Bikes: Art for Auction, in continuity with the legacy of BICAS art auctions, will be held at Dragoon Brewing Co, on August 27th, 5 PM to 9 PM. This fundraiser is both a fun community gathering and a vital funding source for BICAS programs.
For a $25 ticket, attendees will receive a Dragoon drink, a BICAS t-shirt, $10 of BICAS credit, and a sticker. At the auction, bidders will place their bids on a collection of one-of-a-kind art pieces, including upcycled welded creations and art of all mediums inspired by bicycles.
Heat Effects on Human Physiology: What We All Need to Know Wednesday, August 26, 2026 Webinar 6-7 pm
Heat exhaustion can happen to anyone. Learn about the long-term effects of heat-related illness and why we need policies to protect workers exposed to extreme heat. Topics include:
- Preventing heat illness
- Recognizing and responding to tell-tale signs
- Why many medications increase the risk for heat illness
- Workers' rules and regulations and how to advocate for safer heat-related work.
Presenter: Isabella Ducey has a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences and is currently a lecturer and a master’s student at the University of Arizona. She worked last summer as the Pima County Heat Relief intern, where she studied the effects of heat and heat-related illnesses and conducted outreach to vulnerable communities.

City Of Tucson Announces Cooling Centers For
Extreme Summer Heat Relief
From Monday, June 1, to Sunday, Sept. 30, the City of Tucson will operate six cooling centers to provide temporary designated areas for the public to utilize and escape the heat during peak hours. The cooling centers will operate on a seven day a week schedule and will be extended an additional month this year to incorporate the month of September. All City operated cooling centers are located along Sun Tran bus routes, ensuring they remain accessible to keep vulnerable community members safe from extreme heat.
The six City-operated cooling centers will be open daily from noon – 4 p.m., including the City observed holidays on Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth), Friday, July 3 (Independence Day observed), and Monday, Sept. 7 (Labor Day). The centers will also be open on July 4th.

Tucson IDA will be launching a new program on April 1st, which will provide $15,000 to first-time homebuyers. Funding will last through August 2026

Find Food Access Resources In Tucson
Tucson food assistance providers are seeing a sharp rise in demand from families affected by delayed federal benefits, such as SNAP and WIC. At the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, there is an increase in first-time visitors, many of whom had never sought food assistance before. Volunteers are working overtime to assemble emergency food boxes for those suddenly without access to those benefits. The Community Food Bank offers help multiple times a week during varying hours and continues to distribute food at its main location, 3003 S. Country Club Road, and through partner agencies across Southern Arizona. Officials urge residents in need to reach out early, as local inventories may fluctuate if the shutdown continues.
