Other activities include the El Ray Classic and Lowrider Car Show along 13th Street, Flam Chen stilt performers and a circus workshop, food trucks with food available for purchase, giant yard games, KIIM FM live radio spot from 5-7 p.m., and Children's Museum Discovery Night with pay-what-you-wish admission (adults must enter with a child).
"Armory Park has a long history of being a gathering place for Tucsonans, seniors, and visitors in the heart of our city. I am grateful for its grand reopening that was made possible because Tucson voters chose to invest in our community through Proposition 407," said Mayor Regina Romero. "As our city continues to grow, it is important that we keep investing in our parks to ensure they remain safe, accessible, and welcoming to enhance the quality of life for everyone."
Completed improvements include a new pavilion, plaza/performance area, benches, picnic tables, a dog park, and area lighting, as well as renovations to the existing restrooms, irrigation system, and sidewalks.
"We are incredibly excited to welcome the community back to our new and improved Armory Park," said Ward 6 Council Member Schubert. "This park was already an incredibly special place for Tucson, and now, with new shade structures and picnic tables, updated amenities, and intentional programming, it will offer even more local residents, families, older adults - and their pets - a place to relax, recreate, and be in community."
Community input was gathered throughout the planning process via surveys, a block party, and the Bark in the Barrio event, alongside a historic review process that began in January 2024. Tucson Parks and Recreation thanks the Armory Park Neighborhood Association, Armory Park Historic Zone Advisory Board, Downtown Tucson Partnership, and Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission for their engagement.
The $1,710,000 renovation project, designed by ARC Studios and constructed by Durazo, was funded through the Tucson Delivers Proposition 407 voter-approved bond program.
