In addition to his patrol duties, Officer Schmidt serves as a Firearms Instructor, helping ensure officers maintain the skills and confidence necessary to safely and effectively serve the community. He once served as a Field Training Officer and eagerly awaits the opportunity again, as he will head back to patrol at shift change. While CRT will certainly be losing a great officer, patrol as a whole will continue to benefit from Officer Schmidt’s leadership, experience, and dedication.

Real Time Event Tracker
Recently, the Tucson Police Department activated encryption on its radios. This protects personal information of victims and witnesses, as well as sensitive details of investigations.
To continue to provide transparency as to police activity, TPD's Analysis Division created a public-facing Real Time Event Tracker. If you want to know what police activity is going on in your neighborhood, you can look on the dashboard to see call level and type, as well as general location, over the last 12 hours. The data is refreshed every 30 minutes.
You can read the FAQ page to learn more about encryption or go straight to the dashboard. Check it out!
Quarterly DAC Meeting
April DAC meeting.
Operations Division East hosted their quarterly DAC meeting on April 23rd. These open meetings are an opportunity for us to share what's happening in the division, as well as to hear from the community.
During our DAC meetings, we like to cover crime updates and statistics, staffing levels, and topics that could be of interest to the community.
In our last meeting, topics included sharing our plan for addressing community concerns at parks, traffic enforcement and street takeovers, and the Safe Transit Initiative. We also would like to thank the Pima County Attorney’s Office and James Allerton for attending and taking questions from the community.
Below are links to a couple of the topics covered during our April meeting.
Safe City Initiative: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Government/Office-of-the-City-Manager/Safe-City-Initiative
Transit Safety & Security Action Plan: https://www.suntran.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/transit-safety-and-security-action-plan_20251216_mc_final.pdf
Our next DAC meeting is scheduled for July 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Erik Hite Substation, 9670 East Golf Links Road.
Congratulations, Graduates!
May is graduation season, and summer vacation is right around the corner. We want to congratulate all who are graduating and their families. This is a very special moment and something that's worth celebrating.
We also want people to celebrate responsibly. Please be courteous to your neighbors when hosting events. The City of Tucson has specific ordinances related to unruly gatherings and it only takes a few criteria to be met for the host to be cited and your gathering to be ended because of a loud party complaint.
We want to see people be able to celebrate these huge accomplishments, but we also want to make sure celebrations are safe and orderly.
We hope everyone has a happy and safe summer!
