On April 1, 2026, at approximately 3:05 p.m., officers from Operations Division West and members from the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to a serious injury vehicle collision at the intersection of West Grant Road and North 15th Avenue. TFD evaluated both drivers at the scene. The driver of a Ram 1500 truck was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. He has been identified as 62-year-old John Forrest May. His next of kin has been notified of his passing. The other driver, who was driving a Chevrolet Silverado truck, was not injured. Traffic Detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to continue the investigation.
Witness interviews conducted by officers and detectives, in conjunction with roadway and physical evidence, determined that the Silverado was positioned on eastbound Grant Road, and attempted a northbound left turn onto North 15th Avenue. At that time, the Ram truck was traveling westbound on Grant Road in the curb lane. The Silverado failed to yield while making a left turn and struck the Ram truck.
An officer from the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit responded to the collision scene and evaluated the driver of the Silverado for impairment. It was determined that the driver was not impaired by alcohol and or drugs at the time of the collision. Any alcohol and or drugs within Mr. May may be determined through medical records.
The driver of the Silverado was arrested for Causing Death by a Moving Violation. The Silverado’s failure to yield while making a left turn at an intersection is the major contributing factor in the collision.
This is an ongoing investigation, and additional information may be released at a later date as it becomes available.
