TRAFFIC ALERT DOWNTOWN LINKS
WESTBOUND CHURCH CLOSURE
Beginning Wednesday, March 25, 2026, crews will begin work on the new Sixth Street and Church Avenue intersection, as part of the final phase of the Downtown Links Project.
During construction, Church Avenue at Perry Avenue to Sixth Street at Main Avenue will be closed to westbound travel. Also, northbound travel on Church Avenue will not be permitted north of Franklin Street. Westbound travel on Franklin Street from Stone Avenue to Perry Avenue will be maintained to allow business and residential access. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, such as Speedway Boulevard or Congress Street, to avoid the construction area.
This work includes construction of a porkchop island and its traffic signal installation, construction of a median that ties into the existing median west of Main Avenue, and base lift paving of the roadway on Sixth Street, from Stone Avenue to Church Avenue.
Work will take place from about 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., each day, Monday through Saturday, and is scheduled to take about a month to complete. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.

The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.4 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Downtown Links Improvement Project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.
