On March 12, 2026, at approximately 12:45 p.m., Operations Division South officers were dispatched to the intersection of South Campbell Avenue and East Drexel Road for a report of a serious-injury vehicle collision. Tucson Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and evaluated all parties involved. The passenger of a 1996 Ford Bronco was ejected during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported. Traffic Unit detectives responded to continue the investigation.
Interviews and roadway evidence indicated that the Ford Bronco was traveling southbound on Campbell Avenue at approximately the posted speed limit of 40 mph. The Bronco failed to stop for the red traffic signal at Drexel Road and collided with a 2013 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound on Drexel. The collision caused the Bronco to roll over, ejecting the front-seat passenger.
An officer from the DUI Unit also responded to the scene and determined that the 22-year-old male driver of the Bronco was not impaired at the time of the collision. Failure to stop for the red traffic signal was determined to be the contributing factor in the crash. Detectives also determined that the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. She was identified as 24-year-old Natalie Michelle Gutierrez, and her family has been notified of her passing. The driver of the Bronco was charged with the criminal offense of Causing Death Due to Failing to Stop at a Red Traffic Light. The investigation remains ongoing.
