On March 5, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a vehicle collision in the 2100 block of North Silverbell Road. While enroute to the scene, officers were advised that a shooting had also occurred. Upon arrival, officers located 34-year-old Juan F. Lopez in the roadway with gunshot trauma. Officers immediately began rendering aid using their Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) until members of the Tucson Fire Department arrived. Mr. Lopez was ultimately transported to Banner University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Officers gathered numerous witnesses at the scene, including a 31-year-old male who was identified as the shooter. Detectives from TPD Homicide were notified of the shooting and responded to continue the investigation.
Detectives learned that Mr. Lopez caused a minor vehicle collision with the 31-year-old man on Silverbell Road. The two men know each other through acquaintances and encountered each other in the roadway. During the encounter, Mr. Lopez exited his vehicle and confronted the man, which led to shots being fired. The man called 9-1-1 after the shooting and was not injured. After reviewing evidence at the scene and interviewing witnesses, no arrests were made. Detectives are continuing their investigation and will present their findings to the Pima County Attorney’s Office for review.
