On February 5, 2026, TPD Homicide detectives positively identified the victim as 62-year-old Daniel Camacho. The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous. The original media release from February 2, 2026, is listed below.

On January 31, 2026, officers from Operations Division East responded to the desert area northwest of the intersection of South Wilmot Road and Interstate 10, near the railroad tracks. Callers reported a deceased male located in an encampment. A homicide investigation is underway. The identity of the victim remains unknown. The Tucson Police Department requests any information which would help identify this individual. Anyone with information about this incident should call 911, or 88-CRIME to remain anonymous.
