Captain Adam Kidd Operations Division Midtown
January 2026
ODM Operations
VIVA
On 1/1/2026, an ODM Community Response Team was conducting proactive police work near an apartment complex at Dodge and Flower when they observed behavior consistent with narcotics activity. A traffic stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle and counterfeit M30 pills (fentanyl) were located inside.
ODM CRT Teams have dedicated over 800 hours toward the area designated as ODM's Violence Interruption Vitalization Area (VIVA). Violence continues to be associated with fentanyl drug sales in combination with felons who possess firearms illegally. CRT and patrol officers take a proactive approach to disrupting this activity in Midtown, and we are proud of their work.
Barricaded Kidnapping Suspect Arrest
On the morning of 1/3/2026, a victim texted 911 that she had been kidnapped and was in a vehicle with two subjects who were armed with a firearm and brass knuckles.
The victim was located in a vehicle parked outside a convenience store in the area of Broadway and Swan. The female suspect was in the front passenger seat with brass knuckles and a firearm within reach. The male suspect barricaded himself in the convenience store bathroom for upwards of three hours before finally exiting and surrendering to officers. ODM patrol officers were able to successfully rescue the victim from the vehicle, using trained tactics. Additionally, officers contained the convenience store and effectively communicated with the barricaded suspect, leading to his eventual surrender.
Aggravated Assault Arrest
On 1/13/2026, a suspect was at a ramada at Gene C. Reid Park when an individual walked past him. A verbal argument ensued, and the suspect brandished a firearm, reportedly inserting a magazine and pointing the firearm at the individual. The victim was able to flee the area, as Midtown officers quickly responded and used small unit tactics to locate the armed suspect.
A search incident to arrest revealed that the suspect was concealing a firearm in his backpack, as well as multiple plastic bags of a clear crystalline substance and approximately 18 blue M30 pills. The clear crystalline substance tested NIK® positive for methamphetamine. The suspect had 14.798 grams of methamphetamine in one bag, 2.012 grams in another bag, .786 grams in another bag, and 18 blue M30 pills in a another bag. The suspect also had multiple small bags and a small scale. A records check revealed that the suspect had multiple outstanding arrest warrants.
An area restriction was requested to prevent the suspect from returning to Gene C. Reid Park, due to the offenses he was alleged to have committed at the park. This is now standard practice for public parks under Operation Relay.
