_________Officer Francisco Magos – November 15, 2025_________
On November 14, 2025, around 11:45 p.m., officers from Operations Division West and personnel from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the 500 block of West Speedway Boulevard for a report of a collision involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, the driver of a black 2006 BMW 325 was pronounced deceased. He was identified as 35-year-old Adrian Avalos. Next of kin has been notified. The driver of the other vehicle involved, a black 2012 Chrysler 200, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Three additional individuals sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Traffic Detectives were called to the crash and continued the investigation.
Witness interviews conducted by officers and detectives, along with roadway evidence, indicated that Mr. Avalos was traveling eastbound on Speedway Boulevard when his vehicle became disabled. Mr. Avalos, his associates, and a good Samaritan responded to help move the vehicle. Mr. Avalos positioned himself at the open front left driver’s door as the other three individuals pushed the vehicle eastbound in the curb lane. During this time, the Chrysler 200 was traveling eastbound on Speedway in the median lane at a speed higher than the posted 35 MPH limit. The Chrysler then drifted into the curb lane, sideswiping the BMW, striking Mr. Avalos, and causing the vehicle to hit the other three individuals.
An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the hospital and determined that the 72-year-old driver of the Chrysler was impaired at the time of the crash. His exact level of impairment and speed remain under investigation as he continues to receive medical treatment.
