GARMIN MARATHON TUCSON DOWNTOWN ROAD CLOSURES AND RACE ROUTES TEMPORARY CLOSURES
On Saturday, Nov. 15, more than two thousand runners and walkers will participate in Tucson’s inaugural Garmin Marathon Series event – which includes a Boston qualifier eligible marathon, as well as certified half marathon, 10K, and 5K courses – with participants following routes designed to take them past many of the cultural highlights and desert scenery of Tucson.
All race distances begin and finish near the intersection of Congress Street and Granada Avenue in the heart of downtown Tucson. The Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K begin at 6:30 a.m., and the 5K begins at 6:50 a.m. Almost all racing activity, including traffic restrictions, is expected to be concluded by 3 p.m., with the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K finished by 11:30 a.m.
To keep participants and spectators safe, the City of Tucson, Pima County and the State of Arizona will implement road closures beginning on Friday, Nov. 14 at 11 p.m.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit the City's Garmin Marathon Tucson web page to review the downloadable route maps, learn more about the timing of the races, and see where races might impact their travel plans in advance, to plan extra travel time and use alternative routes where available.
Beginning Friday, Nov. 14, and continuing through Nov. 15, the following travel restrictions and road closures will be in place for the Garmin Marathon Tucson:

The Tucson Police Department, Pima County Sheriff's Department, and University of Arizona Police Department will be providing point control and overseeing traffic and race safety during the event.
The races do not require full road closures, except for the finish / start location downtown, and short duration full closures on the streets listed above, but will require lane closures and temporary intersection closures along the race routes where drivers will need to expect delays, use caution, follow all signage, traffic safety devices, and the directions of public safety personnel to allow racing participants safe travel along the race routes.
Business ingress and egress along the race routes will not be closed but may be temporarily restricted as race participants move through the area. Drivers will need to use caution and obey all signage and directions from public safety personnel during the race hours.
Transit Information:
Due to the Garmin Marathon, Sun Tran Routes 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 12, and 25 will be on detour. Detours will begin Friday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. Riders should expect delays throughout the day on Saturday, Nov. 15. For detailed detour information, visit Suntran.com/alerts-detours.
