On October 3, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers from Operations Division East along with members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the intersection at East Speedway Boulevard and North Wilmot Road regarding reports of a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. The rider of the motorcycle was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries. The motorcyclist did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The motorcyclist has been identified as 22-year-old Michael Tyler Brown. His family has been notified of his passing. The other driver involved sustained minor injuries and remained on scene. Traffic Detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to continue the investigation.
Witness interviews, in conjunction with roadway, physical, and video evidence, determined that a Chevrolet Silverado and a Honda motorcycle collided in the intersection during the brief time when all directions of travel have a red traffic signal. The Silverado was facing southbound on Wilmot Road, at Speedway Boulevard, stopped at a solid red traffic signal. The Silverado entered the intersection against the red traffic signal as the Honda motorcycle, driven by Mr. Brown, was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Speedway Boulevard approaching Wilmot Road. The motorcycle did not stop for the red traffic signal and struck the passenger side of the Silverado. Mr. Brown was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and had proper motorcycle endorsement associated with his driver’s license.
An officer from the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit responded and evaluated the driver of the Silverado. It was determined that the driver of the Silverado was not impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Any alcohol and/or drugs within Mr. Brown’s system at the time of the collision may be determined through medical records.
Failure to stop for a red light by the Silverado and the motorcycle, as well as speed, are believed to be the major contributing factors of the collision. Detectives will determine whether or not a vehicle mechanical failure occurred with the Silverado as identified by the driver.
This is an ongoing investigation, and no charges or citations have been issued at this time. Additional information may be released at a later date as it becomes available.
