FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION (HIT AND RUN) EAST 22ND STREET AND SOUTH PARK AVENUE |
|
|
On August 10, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers from Operations Division South along with members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the area of East 22nd Street and South Park Avenue regarding reports of a hit and run involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The vehicle involved fled the scene prior to police and medical arrival. Tucson Fire medics immediately transported the pedestrian to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian did not survive those injuries and was pronounced deceased. Traffic detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to continue the investigation.
Witness interviews in conjunction with roadway evidence determined that the pedestrian was crossing the westbound lanes of East 22nd Street from north to south, not in a marked crosswalk and against the flow of traffic. The pedestrian was struck by an SUV traveling westbound on 22nd Street. The SUV fled the scene and was later located unoccupied.
The pedestrian has been identified; however, their identity is not being released until a next of kin can be confirmed and notified. The pedestrian attempting to jaywalk across 22nd Street was the major contributing factor of the collision, and the hit and run aspect is the primary focus as investigators word to identify and locate the driver.
This investigation is ongoing, and any additional information may be released at a later date as it becomes available. Anyone with information is urged to contact Tucson Police, or 88-CRIME if you wish to remain anonymous.
