|
On July 30, 2025 at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers from Operations Division West and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to the area of North First Avenue and East Navajo Road regarding reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries, and was later pronounced deceased as a result of those injuries. The passenger vehicle, and its driver, remained on scene. The pedestrian has been identified as 59-year-old Gregory Lynn Harris. His family was notified of his passing. Traffic detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to continue the investigation.
Interviews conducted by officers and detectives, in conjunction with roadway and physical evidence, determined that Mr. Harris was attempting to cross North First Avenue on foot. The passenger vehicle involved was traveling northbound on First Avenue in the curb lane when it struck Mr. Harris, who was not in a marked crosswalk. Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision. An officer from the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit responded and evaluated the driver of the passenger vehicle for impairment. It was determined that the driver was not impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. Any alcohol and/or drugs within Mr. Harris’ body may be determined through medical records.
Mr. Harris crossing the roadway not utilizing a crosswalk is the major contributing factor of the collision. No citations or charges have been issued at this time as this investigation is ongoing. Additional information may be released at a later date as it becomes available.
