TRAFFIC ALERT
STONE AVENUE PAVING PROJECTS LANE RESTRICTIONS AND OVERNIGHT ROAD CLOSURES
Stone Avenue from First Street to the Stone Avenue Underpass, north of Franklin Street/Toole Avenue, is scheduled to be repaved as part of two separate projects with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility.
As part of the Downtown Links project, on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and Thursday August 7, 2025, crews are scheduled to pave Stone Avenue from Fifth Street to just north of the Stone Avenue Underpass.
During paving operations, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both scheduled nights, Stone Avenue will close to travel between University Boulevard and Franklin Street/Toole Avenue. Also, Sixth Street will close between Stone Avenue and Sixth Avenue. Maclovio Barraza Parkway will remain open to travel during the closure allowing right turns onto Sixth Street from Maclovio Barraza Parkway as well as left turns from Sixth Street onto Maclovio Barraza Parkway.
As part of the Prop 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program, work on Stone Avenue from First Street to Fifth Street is scheduled to begin the week of August 4. Work will take place from about 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. This improvement project will include the removals and replacing of non-compliant ADA ramps, milling (removing) the top layer of old asphalt and repaving the roadway. One lane of travel in each direction will be maintained during this work. This project is scheduled to be complete by the end of August 2025.
The schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
The Regional Transportation Authority, a political subdivision of the state and independently governed, has invested more than $1.4 billion in transportation projects and services to improve mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life in the region. The RTA collects a half-cent excise (sales) tax from its special taxing district within Pima County to fund its 20-year regional transportation plan. The plan and tax were approved by voters in May 2006. The Downtown Links Improvement Project is part of the RTA plan and is managed by the City of Tucson.
