JULY IS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH

The services that parks and recreation professionals provide are essential to building thriving communities. KIDCO AFTERSCHOOL REGISTRATION

Programming is available for ages 5-11 years old (must be currently enrolled in kindergarten) from the time of dismissal until 6 p.m. on all in-person learning days (excluding City holidays).

Cost: $500/school year for city residents or $625/school year for non-city residents

FALL LEISURE CLASS REGISTRATION BEGINS SATURDAY, JULY 26

Tucson Parks and Recreation has a variety of leisure classes and opportunities for your personal interests. Pottery, health and fitness, motor development for children, walking, swimming, and a wide selection of indoor and outdoor recreation activities are available for Tucsonans of all ages and abilities. Classes will be viewable online on Friday, July 11.

TRACK & FIELD & ROAD RACES IN JULY

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation department is hosting its annual summer track and field and road races throughout July. Cost is $3/youth (17 years and younger); $4/adults (18 years and older). Track and field events are held Tuesdays, through July 30, at Drachman Stadium, 501 S. Plumer. Road races will be held at various locations on Thursdays. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with races starting at 6 p.m. Ribbons will be given to the top finishers at each track and field meet and run. INDOOR ADULT VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Join our Indoor Volleyball League! The season is eight-weeks long, with a single elimination tournament at the end. Referees are provided.

Ages: 16+
Dates: Aug. 26-Nov. 18
Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Location: Randolph Recreation Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way
Cost: $315 per team, $35 per free agent

Tucson Parks and Recreation is hosting a Slowpitch Softball League this fall. The league consists of players ages 16 and older in three divisions: coed, women's, and men's. The regular season will be 10 weeks with a single elimination tournament to determine the league champion. If you don't have a team, join the free agent list.

Days: Mondays (coed competitive advanced), Tuesdays (coed competitive basic), Wednesdays (coed recreational*), and Thursdays (men's league and women's league)

NEW DOG PARK AT KENNEDY PARK

A new dog park has opened at John F. Kennedy Park, 3301 S. La Cholla Blvd. The dog park includes an area for large and small dogs and features dog-friendly potable water fountains and ramadas with tables.

In November 2018, City of Tucson voters approved Proposition 407, a $225 million bond package for capital improvements. The bond funds are dedicated to improving City park amenities (playgrounds, sports fields, pools, splash pads, and recreation centers) as well as connections (pedestrian pathways, bicycle pathways, and pedestrian and bicycle safety). 2018 Parks + Connections Bond Oversight Commission Hybrid Meeting

The Tucson Delivers Program is monitored by 11 members of the public appointed to the 2018 Parks and Connections Bond Oversight Commission. Their next meeting will be held on Monday, July 21, at 5:30 p.m., virtually and at 900 S. Randolph Way, Tucson, AZ, 85716.

MISSION MANOR PARK AQUATIC CENTER BROKE GROUND

The City of Tucson broke ground on the new Mission Manor Park Aquatic Center on Tuesday, June 24, at Mission Manor Park, 6100 S. 12th Ave. celebrating the transformation of the long-closed pool into a modern, inclusive aquatic facility. The $6.2 million project includes a zero-entry recreation pool, heated therapy pool, splash pad, new pool house, shade structures, and green stormwater infrastructure with native landscaping. The Mission Manor pool has been closed since 2008 due to budget constraints and the need for upgrades. Construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026. Community members are invited to share their memories of Mission Manor Pool by submitting historical photos of themselves or their families enjoying the pool over the years. Photos may be featured in future storytelling efforts.
