ODM in the Community
ODM officers hosted Coffee with a Cop at Egg Connection. It was good to have a chance to talk with community members in a relaxed (and tasty) location.
 Unit Highlight
This month, ODM would like to highlight the excellent work provided by our Community Response Team 2 (CRT2).
On May 26, 2025, ODM officers responded to a shooting incident near Swanway Park (4800 East 1st Street). The Shooting Investigations Unit led the investigation and circulated grainy surveillance images of two suspects seen fleeing the scene on bicycles.
With limited leads, CRT2 stepped up – putting significant time and effort into the investigation. Through persistent surveillance in the area, their diligence paid off on June 14th, when they successfully identified the female suspect. Officers maintained watch until a safe opportunity allowed them to take her into custody. Detectives quickly responded to gather evidence and a formal statement.
Following the arrest of the female, detectives were able to identify the male suspect. Once again, CRT2 dedicated themselves to locating the individual – working extended hours and maintaining focused surveillance. Their relentless pursuit paid off on June 20th, when the suspect was spotted at a monitored residence and apprehended safely with assistance from the S.W.A.T. team.
This case underscores the professionalism, perseverance, and impact of CRT2's tireless work. Their commitment to community safety and investigative excellence deserves special recognition. Well done!
Crime Prevention Tip
With the 4th of July just around the corner, did you know that improper use of fireworks is not only unsafe – it can also be a crime?
Below are some common consumer fireworks that are illegal to use in Arizona, outside a permitted public fireworks display.
Fireworks that are not consumer fireworks are federally regulated, and even transporting them without the proper license or permit is illegal.
Any fireworks use that causes harm, whether negligent or intentional, can subject the person to criminal and civil liability. Check out these Fireworks Safety Tips from the National Safety Council.
Finally, keep your pets indoors and calm over the holiday. Animal shelters receive the highest number of strays this time of year – dogs and cats who bolted out the door to run away from all the frightening noise.
Enjoy the 4th and stay safe!
