On June 7, 2025, just after 8 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a collision involving a motorcyclist at Grant Road and North Swan Road. Upon arrival, members from the Tucson Fire Department evaluated the parties involved and transported the motorcyclist, an adult male, to St. Joesph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. After receiving treatment, the motorcyclist’s condition was upgraded to stable.
Interviews and evidence at the scene led officers to determine that the motorcyclist was riding his 1989 Harley-Davidson eastbound on Grant Road and made a right turn onto southbound Swan. At the same time, a white 2000 Lincoln Town Car was making a left turn from westbound Grant Road onto southbound Swan. The two vehicles sideswiped each other, and the motorcyclist crashed as a result. The Lincoln’s driver, a 36-year-old female, was not injured. An officer from the DUI Unit responded to the scene and determined that she was not impaired at the time of the collision.
On the evening of June 17th, the Tucson Police Department was notified that the motorcyclist had passed away in the hospital. He was identified as 68-year-old David Edward Verner. His family was aware of his subsequent passing. Currently, failure to yield while making a right turn on red by the motorcyclist is the major contributing factor of the crash, however, the case has been assigned to the Traffic Investigations Unit for further review.
