FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION
EAST VALENCIA ROAD AND SOUTH ALVERNON WAY |

On June 16, 2025, at approximately 10:00a.m., Officers from Operations Division South and members from the Tucson Fire Department responded to East Valencia Road and South Alvernon Way regarding a report of a two-vehicle collision with injuries. When officers and TFD arrived, they located a Chevrolet Colorado with significant front-end damage, and an International MV607 flat-bed tow truck near the intersection. The driver of the Colorado was unresponsive and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Colorado was identified as 29-year-old Michael Henry Dooling. His family was located and notified of his passing. The driver of the tow truck sustained minor injuries. Traffic detectives and Crime Scene Unit responded to continue the investigation.
Through witness interviews in conjunction with roadway evidence, officers and detectives determined that the Colorado was swerving on Interstate 10 and on westbound Valencia Road prior to the collision. The tow truck was stationary in the middle lane, stopped at the red traffic signal on westbound Valencia Road at Alvernon Way. The Colorado collided with the rear of the tow truck at speeds greater than 45 miles per hour. Mr. Dooling was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the tow truck was not impaired, and it was believed that Mr. Dooling may have been impaired. Any alcohol and or drugs within Mr. Dooling’s body may be determined through medical records. The tow truck was not engaging in any rescue or wrecker activities when the collision occurred.
Failing to control speed by Mr. Dooling was the major contributing factor in this collision. This is an on-going investigation, and no charges or citations have been issued at this time. Any additional information may be released at a later date as it becomes available.
