BEAT THE HEAT AT FREE COOLING CENTERS, POOLS, AND SPLASH PADS - With triple-digit temperatures entrenched upon us, the City of Tucson is helping residents stay safe and cool. Cooling centers are open every day, including weekends and holidays, from noon to 4 p.m. The centers are located at Donna R. Liggins Center, 2160 N. 6th Ave.; El Pueblo Center, 101 W. Irvington Road; Fred Archer Center, 1665 S. La Cholla Blvd.; Freedom Center, 5000 E. 29th St.; Morris K. Udall Center, 7200 E. Tanque Verde Road; and Randolph Center, 200 S. Alvernon Way. All cooling centers in the City of Tucson are located along Sun Tran bus routes, ensuring they remain accessible. Summer pools and splash pads are also free in the City of Tucson. Additionally, Pima County has compiled a list of additional cooling stations and locations for water and supplies. REGISTER NOW FOR A WARD 2 BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT - Join City of Tucson Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham and Udall Recreation Center for the "Back to School Event," Saturday, July 19, from 9-11 a.m. at the Ward 2 Council Office, 7820 E. Broadway Blvd. (enter off of Broadway). The event will feature free school supply giveaways and a variety of community exhibitors. Reservations are required. ENJOY SUMMER SAFARI NIGHTS SERIES AT REID PARK ZOO - Beat the heat and explore the outdoors with Reid Park Zoo’s Summer Safari Nights on Friday and Saturday evenings, presented by TMC Health. Enjoy the Zoo in the cooler evening hours, featuring keeper chats, animal encounters, artifact stations, carousel rides, crafts, and games. Face painting and glitter tattoos will be available for purchase. Enjoy dinner and a cold drink at the Flamingo Grill and listen to live music by some of Tucson’s best bands.
